The Local News
The main aim of the weekly news-
paper as the name implies, is to give
news of its own district. It may have
other aims, such as to give the mer-
chants a chance to tell of their goods
in its columns or to try to influence
Public opinion through its editor-
ials; but first of all it must give the
iiews. Some of this news is not easily
obtained and no editor caa, cover it
all without assistance. Especially is
this true when you have visitors.
Many of the ladies think that per-
sonals are the rnost interesting read-
ing in the whole paper. Your visitors
ate usually glad to have their names
appear, so send them in. Sometimes
people come in and civ, the impres-
sion that they are asking a favor
when they want us it* insert the
names of their friends *ha have been
spending a few day a with them. No
person need feel tbat way about giv-
ing us news items for we are indeed
glad to, get them all.

We are now in the midst of the
holiday season, and many a tired an
worn down System is restored at this
time of recreation. Everyone should
at some time of year take a week or
so off and get away from the daily
routine of life and have a change.
Truly the farmer finds himself just
in the busiest time of year and can-
not afford to take off, but the harv-
est will soon be in and a little outing
will be in order, and everyone who
works hard the year around deserves
sme holidays,
ENGINE HAS SPEED
Sawing operations were commenc-
ed in the Kalbfieisch mills the begin-
ning of the week, but were delayed
on Tuesday, when in some unknown
reason the large and slow motion
engine that drives the sawing mill as
well as the planing mill and flax mill,
started to, speed up, apparently the
governorsnot shutting off, with the
result that considerable damage was
done before it was brought under
control. The saw mill Wass immed-
iately shut off, but the main shaft
through the planing mill euffered the
injuries, as two large pulleys did not
stand the eseeeeiye speed and bzoke,
and the big shaft was badly bent and
twisted. Mr. Kalbfieisch will be ob-
liged to put in a new shaft, which.
will mean considerable expense, and
the usual work will be delayed for a
week or so.
