A deep gloom was casinover our
Community when it was learned that
on Saturday evening little BillyJohn
ston, .only child of Mr. and Mrs4'ercy
Johnston. had passed away. He had
been sick only afew days and al-
though all that was possible was done
for him, it was of no avail. He was
a very bright little fellow of two
years, the joy of his parents -Who are
stricken with grief by their very se-
vere loss. The sympathy of anti -wilt
neighbors and friends goes out to
them in their sorrow and bereave-
ment. The funeral which was held
on Monday was, very largely attend-
ed. The .service was conducted by
Rev. E. A. Poulter. Special music
was given by Mr. Geo. Poulter also by
the Misses Hicks of Stephen, which
Was vein- suitable. The floral tribute
also was very beautiful. hTe

Bethany Sisters' Class Tea
About 30 ladies attended the tea
at the home of the Mises Kraft giv-
under the auspices of the Bethany
Sisters Class of the Evangelical Sun-
day School. The guests were met at
the door by Master Glen Haugh and
ushered into the living room where
tea was served at small tables by
Misses Susie and Marie Kraft.
Mrs. Eifert, wife of the late Rev.
R. Eifert well known to many of
this community passed away at her
haine in Detroit, after an illness of
about 2 weeks in her 71st year.
Funeral services were conducted at
the home in Detroit and at the Luth-
eran church at Tavistock where in-
terment took place with Rev. F. G.
Breach officiating. Her husband pree

Convention recently held in Tavistock
'was given by the delegates, Mrs. W.
Sauer and Mrs, D. Tiernan. There
were 45 visits made to the sick and

Mr. and Mrs. John Hartman and
son John of Sedforth returned home
after a motor trip visiting their dau-
ghter in Wallaceburg, also to Waipolc
Island, Chatham, Windsor, and De-
troit, and on their return visiting
their son Charles in London.
The Wood brothere a mile and
quarter east of Hensall, lost a barn
by lightning dining the last storm
It was not the homestead barn but
(Me about a quarter mile north. I'
had some contents but was covered
by insurance.

Donald Gladman, son of Mr. and
Mrs. F. W. Gladman, Exeter, expects
to attend. Emanuel College,. Toronto,
in the fall, with the intention of en-
tering the ministry of the United

Hugh M. Harailtn, a former well-
known resident of Tuckersmith,drop-
ped dead on Tuesday Jest in Toronto,
where he had lived the last nine ye-
ars. He was in his 71st year. His
wife died last winter and he is sur-
vived by one son and two daughters
The remains were brought to Sea -
forth for interment.
The principal and staff of both the
public school and collegiate at Clin-
ton have been re-engaged, in each
case one teacher less than for the
past term.
Edgar Alfred Horne, little son cd.
Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Horne, of Wing -
ham, who was injured in a fall re-
ceived about two weeks ago, died in
the Wingham General Hospital.
When his car rolled over several
times on the south line near the Kin -
cardiae town limits, Rev. E. W.
Young and family of London, escap-
ed serious feertriate They were, re-
turning to London from their sum-
mer home at Kincardine.
The Exeter Canning factory. com-
menced operations on the pea pack
on Tuesday last; several farmers hav
ing fields fit for canning. The qua-
lity is good but the quantity smaller
the very dry 'weather not having al-
lowed the peas to mature. About
half the pods cbntain only one or
two peas.
Mrs. E. Hovey, Clinton, had the
misfortune to fall from a step in her
own garden the other day andt frac-
ture her left arm in two places be-
sides injuring herself in other ways
While whitewashing the barn of A.
Nay, 4 miles west of L-ucknow, Chas
Lowry of Bruseels, met with a seri-
ous and painful accident. While
