It may have other aims, such as to give the mer- zhants a chance to tell of their goods in its columns or to try to influence public opinion through its editor- ials; but first of all it must give the news. Some of this news is not easily obtained and no editor can cover it all without assistance, •Especially is chis true when you have visitors. Many of the ladies think that per- sonals are the, inmost interesting read- ing in the whole paper. Your visitors are usually glad to have their names appear, so send them in. The most interesting part of the meeting was the resignation of Mr. Henry Eilber as Secretary -Treasurer, who has held this position for some fifty-sis years. And has been an executive of the Company for sixty years, since the Company was first organized. Mr. Eilber during these year las been an outstanding man in insuranee act- ivities, and few men in .Ontario today are as well posted along this particu- lar Mr. lines. Eilber leave very a commendable record in his work with this Company, which is considered one of the best for low rates and general efficiency among the farmers' mutual companies, and while he ", has laid down the duties of • sec'retary- treasurer, he still holds the respons- ible position as manager. The board then immediately appointed Mr. Her- bert K. Eilber, as their secretary- ited a wreath to the memory of those who fell in the Great War. The loc- al clergy assisted and Bugler Berry sounded the "Last ,Post" and "Re- veille." The Canadian Legion, under Thos. Pryde and headed by the Dash- wood Band and accompanied by the local Odd Fellows, proceeded to the cemetery, where the customary dec- oration of graves took place. A sac- red concert was given by the band and the Main St. Quartette sang. Rev A. E. Elliott and Rev. M. A. Hunt de- livered addresses. Traffic Officer Nor- man Lever was assisted by Constable 3. Norrie, of Exeter, and Constable Steinhagen of Dashwood, in directing the hundreds of cars. 1 The fund being raised for the crippled children of Huron County by the Lions Club of Goderich received a good boost on Friday night through a large attendance at their Concert in Jantes Street church. In the absence of Dr. Hooper, chairman or the As- sociation, Harry Edwards of Strat- ford, gave a talk, illustrated by lan- tern slides. There will be a clinic at Stratford on Sept. 12th. Exeter was urged to form a Lions club. The society has a number of crippled children in its care, one recent case coining from Exeter. Theservices of the members are given gratis, not even meals being charged in expense accounts.
