Song From the Ship
To sea, to seal The calm is o'er;.
The wanton water leaps in sport,
And rattles down the pebbly shore;
The' dolphin wheels, the sea -cows
snort,
.And unseen Mermaids.' pearly song
Comes bubbling up, the weeds
among,
Fling broad the sail, dip deep the
oar:
To sea, to seal The calm is o'er.
'To sea, to seal aur wide -winged bark
Shall 'billowy cleave its sunny way,
And with its shadow, fleet and dark,
Break the caved Triton's , azure
, day,
Like mighty 'eagle soaring light
O'er antelopes en Alpine height.
The anchor heaves, the ship swings
free,
The sails swell full. To sea, to seal

London's Beauty
Is London beautiful? Not atail
in the sense in which Paris Is beau-
tiful, i.e. on account of its splendid••

thoroughfares, Paris has a classic
beauty which no one can deny,
London's beauty is like the face of a
Rembrandt portrait; it looks beau-

its beauty from the climate, the
light and, above all, the mist; it is
barely the same for two days, nay
two hours, together, and is at its
=loveliest in "lovely" weather. You
get the most marvellous sunsets in

Canadian Pine
Valuable Wood
There are nine distinct pine species
native to Canada, of which rix are of
great commercial importance. Eastern
white pine is the most valuable coni-
ferous wood in Canada. Up to a few
years ago it ms"the most important
in point of quantity exported, but re-
cently there has heen a relativc scarc-
ity. The Western white pins is sim-
ilar in most respects to the Eastern
species but does not form extensive
purr stands. It is confined to the
Province of British Columbia, The
red or Norway pine of Eastern Can-
ada Is harder and more resinous than
the white pine, and the tree is a vain_
able source of structwal timber as
well as of sawn lumber. The Western
yellow or "bull" pine of the interior
of British Columbia is softer and
lighter in: color than the red pine, and
is now extensively used as a substi-
tute for white pine.
There are three hemlock species in
Canada's forests, two of which are
valuable timber trees. The Eastern
l_emlock is abundant throughout its
raige°in the Eastern Provinces, but is
not found west of the Province of On-
tario. ' The wood is chiefly used for
construmion, especially in house -fram-
ing. It supplies the demand for a
cheap, strong material for many pur-
poses, including poles, mining timber,
pulpwood and firewood, and its bark
is a valuable source of tannin. The
Western hemlock is found in Canada
only in the Province of British Col-
umbia, and is becoming more valuable
each year as its qualities are better
appreciated. The Western species is
used more extensively than the East-
ern in pulp mai ufacture,
There are only two species of th
geniis commonly celled cedar in Can-
ada. They are both of great com-
mercial importance, each in. its own
region as their ranges de not overlap.
The wood of the cedars is the most
durable coniferous wood grown in the
Dominion. The Eastern tree, white
cedar, is found from the Atlantic. to
the south-east part of Manitoba. Ce-
der is preferred to all other native
woods'for shingles and far all struc-
tural work exposed to moisture, enor-
n ous quantities being used for poles
and fence posts. The Westerr red ce-
aar is one of the giants of the Pacific
coast, being surpassed in size only by
the Douglas fir, Its wood is made into
shingles to a greater extent than any
other wood in. Canada, and it is also
sawn into lumber.
Texas Supplies Most Mohair
Lubbock, Tex.—Texas produced 31
per cent of the United States mo-

analysis of the 1930 census complet-
ed by Dr. J'. 0. Ellsworth, head of
the department of agricultural econo-
mies at Texas Technological Col-
lege. Sixty-five per cent of the na-
tion's goats and kids are in Texas.
