Due to the Banks
Mr. Brownlee, premier of Alberta,
informed his.legislation that on Sept-
ernber„30th last, the debt of the
krheat pool to the banks. was sixty+
fight million dollars.'' This was, in
the main, for advances 'made to• the
garmexs on the crops oz 1929 and
the account at this -moment, - lie
did not state. Nor did he state what
1930. What quantity of wheat was
in store against this liability or what
vas the liability of private dealers
or the quantity which they have pled
ged to the banks. It is a trying st-
ate of affairs which seems not to
have been foreseen by the pool man-
agers, the dealers' •or the banks. If
it had been foreseen, it is to be as-
'unel! the': r-uch leve :Honey would
have been advanced to the farmers
in 1929 and 1930. In view of these
facts, it cannot be reasonably assert-
ed that the Canadian banks have not
been liberal to the west.

The 23rd Annual At -Home of the
Huron Old Boy's Assbeiation of Tor-

Court of -that city, on Friday evening
last, with a large attendance truly
representing every' section of the
good 'old county: Dancing was car-
ried on in •'the- main dining room,
while the messiah galleries were used
for euchre, and bridge. The refresh-
ments were served in side tables all
around the dance hall and in galles-
ies. The attendance, on account of
the depression, was not up to last
year, but what was lacking in numb-
ers was amply made up in enthusiasm
Hydro Exchange
Many municipalities opposed pay-
ing their share of the Hydro exchange
bill, but the majority are taking a
very sensible view of this matter. It
was decided at a convention of the
Municipal Electric Association by a
:•ote-o-f 2 to 1 for the Hydro Cern-
nussion to pay about 46 per cent and
the remaining 54 per cent be paid -
by the • municipalities. •• This seems
like a very fair way out of a serious
situation as the drain' on the reserves
of! .Ontario Hydro Commission and
aleo on -the reserves -of the various
municipalities will, not'be iimpared'
to 'such an extent as if either had to
pay the whole amount. In a great
many cases this will not cause an
increase of rates, it will not locally,
'and now that this matter is settled
by such a large majority vete all
municipalities will likely fall in Iine.
