wives at dinner last Friday evening
also- those who kindly resigned in
favor of this year's council. Later
in the evening over 100 young people
gathered from all parts of the town-
ship and an enjoyable time was spent
at dancing and cards. The guests at

Carmel Presbyterian church on the

will include Haggis, Shortbreads and.

When the motorcycle on which
they were riding skidded at a sweep
corner at Seaforth Larry McKay and
W. R. Porter, both of Stratford, we-
re thrown from the machine and
Painfully injured. The accident oc-
cured when they were riding -roan
Gbderich to Stratford after spenaing
Sunday with some friends there.
When the motorcycle skidded on the
slippery pavement, Porter, who was
riding on the rear seat, was thrown
some distance and McKay struck
either the, pavement of the cycle ane'
was stunned.
The annual meeting of the United
Farmers of North Huron was held
in the Council Chamber, Winghani,
Friday last. Gordon Lamb, Goderich
was chairman. The election of offi-
cers for the year 1933, took place,

ectors, W. J. Henderson, Mrs. Ander-
sen, ,Spey-Treae,

directors were all re-elected. he

Russia, while a petition on debtor's
equity and inflation was also indors-

dgeover the river at Londesboro has
been suspended, probably until spring
A swing bridge has been erected for

The home of Mrs., W. J. Sinyth.

her absence and almost all the con-
tents stolen, including a stove and
linoleum on the floor, Mr. Smyth
died last month, after which Mrs,
Smyth went to stay with her son,
Who lives across the road. '
Hon. Dr. J. M. Robb, Minister of
Health for Ontario, will visit Goder-
ich on Jan, 26th, and will confer with
the board of governors of Alexandra
hospital. In the evening the Rood of
thelate Walter Ewing Buchan, of
Durham, in her 80th year. The de-
ceased lady was the only surviving
member of a family of seven; was
the fourth daughter of the late Jno.
Lauder and Jessie Bell, and was born
in Durham, Dec. -28, 1853. There she
spent her girlhood and after becom-
ing the bride of Waiter Buchanan,
her married life, she carne to Bay-
field to make her home with her
daughter 14 years ago.
A colorful figure passed away in
the Scott Memorial. Hospital, Sea -
forth, last Tuesday in the person of
Thomas Brown,' aged '16 years, In
his prune he . was one of the best
known and most •popular auctioneers
in Western. Ont., and few indeed are
the farms in this section of Huron
or Perth counties where at some time
he had not weilded the autioneer's
hammer; . Of late years he had been
in failing health, but todk an attack
of pneumonia. He was born in Hul
lett Township and 88 years ago he
was united in marriage to Mrs. Hy.
Friel of Seaforth, who predeceased
flim. in 1910, but he is survived by 1
son, Jos. Drown of New York, also
two sisters and a brother;' Mrs.Frank.
Mousseau of Zurieh, Mrs, J. Brown
of Mullett, and Sister M. Eugenia,of
St. Joseph's Convent, Windsor.
Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Jacobs, two
of the oldest and most Highly e steem-
med residents of Seaforth, quietly ob
served the 60th anniversary of their
wedding at their home on Christmas
day. Mr. Jacobs was born in London::
Township and carie to Bgmondville
whwen 17 years of age, where` he
ltarned the trade of tinsmith with his
brother-in-law, John Rret., Ili`
and crushing operations while the
•crusher owned by the Township of
Hay is in operation. Tenders to be
