TRACTOR DAMAGES ROAD
The most discusted man in Goder-
ich is T. R. Patterson, county road
engineer, after he learned that a
heavy spike -wheel tractor had riven
over three miles of freshly laid bit-
uminous or asphalt roadway between
Varna and Bayfield. Mr. Patterson
said be was more heartsick than an-
gry after looking over the damaged
highway. Of course we will have to
prosecute," said Mr. Patterson. "We
can't have this ..sort of thing going on.
The road will have to be resurfaced
and rerolled. The man was warned
several times to desist, but •continued
making trips." This year Huron Co-
unty adopted a policy of building
permanent hard surfaced roads and
has finished 16 miles of this type of
highway, said by mote.. ists to be the
finest yet, including provincial high-
ways. There is a three and .7.1e -half
mile stretch just out of Goderich, 8
miles between Seaforth and Brussels
and a total of five miles in other
parts of the county, some near Ethel

Marked improvements have been
madc around the Dominion House
property, !by the removal of the old
hotel barns and the building of a
nice triple garage and store house at -
ached, this is all nicely painted. The
yard surrounding the property na,
also been enclosed by a nicely de-
signed rustic fence made of .cedar
poles. Really what a difference it
makes with a bit of fixing up, and
this is a very creditable place to look
at.

OBITUARY
Late Peter Manson
This week we are calleu upon to
cronicle the death of practically a
lifelong resident of the Zurich COM-
rnunity, in the person of Mr. Peter
Manson, who passed away at his
home at Henson, on Friday Septem-
ber 16th in his 68th yea:, atter a
rather prolonged illness, which made'
its cane upon his system at different
times. Being born, raised and spent
practically all his lifetime on the old
Manson farm three miles north of
Zurich he was a member of a pioneer
family of this district, his departure
eing caused by a heart attack. A-
bout two years ago he retired to Hen-,
sail, and is survived besides three
sisters in the west, by his widow,
Mrs. Jean (McArthur) Manson and
their daughter Sarah at home., one
daughter Grace having predeceased
in 1932, Mr. Manson was always of
a very cheerful and genial disposition
and very pleasant .and interesting to
converse with, and he will be greatly
missed by his associates. The fun-
eral which was largely attended was
held on Sunday afternoon from his
late residence, Hensall, interment be-
ing made in 'Hayfield :CetneterY•
