and Miss Gertrude Ortwein of De-
troit, were recent visitors at the home
of their parerit6, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob
Ortwein. .
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert K. Eilber
of Crediton, were in town on Friday,
as they were .returning from a pleas-
ant motor trip up to Muskoka where
they took a boat trip, they also vis-
ited North Bay, but were unable to
see the Quints, as they had contract-
ed a cold an.d were not shown last
week. While in Zurich they stayed
with their daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
Ward Fritz, Mr. Eilber thinks a
trip' like this is very invigorating, es-
pecially when one is working indoors.,
during the balance of the year.
Golding-Stelck
The marriage of Viola Mary Stelck
daughter of Mfrs. Andrew Price and
the late Arna Stelck of Stanley town-
ship, to William Arthur Golding, son
of W. H. Golding. Del .P aid Mrs,
Golding of Seaforth, took place at
Windsor on Saturday last in Central
United church. After the wedding
trip, Mr. and Mrs. Golding will take
up residence in Seaforth.
Plays Havoc With Tomatoes
Many tomato plants in this vicinity

the tomato pants, destroying both
the fruit and the vine, an many a

WHEAT CARRYOVER
Ot tawa-At the end of the crop
year, July 31,, stocks of wheat in
C:tnaada totaled 23,411,171 bushels,
says a report issued by the Dominion
Bureau of Statistics. This represente.d
a reduction of 9,526,820 bushels
from last •year's revised total. This
year's figure is the lowest since 1923
when 11,690,296 bushels were re-
ported on .Sept. 1, says the report.
PLAN AUTO TUNNELe
..Detroit - Two vehicular tunnels;
each providing eight lanes of traffic,
were suggested as a solution of De-
troit's major transportation problem
-its traffic -jammed streets. H. 3.
Beyster, Detroit public works com-
missioner, offered the plan to the
Street RailWay Commission. for con-
sideration. Total cost of the two tub-
es' would be 29,000,000, and each
would be eight and one-half miles
long. One would run north and soath
under Detroit main street, Woodward
Ave,, and the other would loop ar-
ound the main down-tewn eentres,
PASTEURIZATION OF MILK
Under an Act passed by the Ont-
ario Legislature this year compulsory
pasteurization of milk for human
consumption will ' have toebe made.
In cities and towns and other desig-
nated areas this new law \vill go into
effect October 1st. In villages and
other smaller centres the new Act
will be applied on December 81st
Besides the towns and cities which
come under the new act, there are 34
designated areas, as well as six vill-
ages. 37 villages are affected by the
portion of the At which becomes ef-
fective • Dec. 31 of this year. The
Pasteueization Act reads: No person
shall 'sell, offer for sale, or deliver in
any city or town, or in any other.
