As in previous o. casions, a goodly
number of our readers :ere anxious t„
read an account ,of our holiday trip
which was enjoyed by your publisher
and :family from July 27th to Aug-
ust 5th; ten days. The uses hay we
lazily went up the lake stopping off
at Kincardine for lunch, and arrived.
at Port Elgin in the middle of the
afternoon, here we found a very en-
ticing motor tourist camp with from
thirty to forty-five traleri and tent,,
enjoying :the lakeside of what is con-
sidered the finest bathing and sand
beach along Lake Huron on the On-
tario side; cars can drive right out
into the water without fairing, and
the water is so gradual that one can
wade out for twenty rods witout be-
ing in danger. To the north of the
large bathing beach which is super-
vised by a lifeguard perched up or
a .stand about twenty feet high, is
the immense breakwater mad., of
concrete, which has to the south a
sloping v. ater table about n'ne feet
wide, and upon this hundreds of
people are seen lying in the hot sun
taking their portion of sunbathing.
It was on a hot afternoon that your
publisher took two hours of this and
with the result of terribly scalded
back and shoulders which required
medical attention. Hundreds of cam-
pers seekinlr a few week's rest visit

this `haven of rest" each summer.
A mile to the south of Port Elgin is
Cobei's Grove where there are hun-
ireds of cottages snuggly hidden in
he tall pines and cedars. Southamp-
on five miles to the north is also a
great summer resort ,but they lack the
nice bathing beach Port Elgin has.
After six days of real rest and re-
laxation we journeyed on around
Georgian Bay, stopping off shortly at
Owen ,Sound, .Meaford., Collingwood
here they were celebrating; the Old
i3oys Reunion, and had three blocks
of main street fenced off for the big
midway •of ferris wheels and all those
other amusements that goeswith it.
Leaving Collingwood we en oyed the'
beautiful drive along 'Georgian l3ay
through. Wasaga Beach which is about'
seven miles of beach driving with
cottages and booths and amusements
along the way, many were in bath-
ing. Anther drive brought us try
Midland, the home of the summer
camper and winter sportsmen. The
large tourist camp -or park is srtc;ate
at the enge of town. and nestlee close
to park lake, 'a nice fresh water i ee
and very clean; here what seemed
several hundred tenters and basil ra
were enjoying that long looked for
spell of summer outing and refit. A
few miles further and we visited the
Midland .Shrine with its beautiful pic-
turesque side -hill setting. We were
amazed et th e improvements on
these grounds from twelve yea -u ago
when we were there. Thousands of
pilgrims visit these sacred grounds
each year, and some stay several
weeks and partake of the blessings
that conie from above at this mem-
orable shrine.
It made a nice afternoon and pact
of the evening drive up to Nort`-
Lay, where they told us it had rained
every day for two weeks, and the
ground looked well soaked. As we
had been all around the city three
years ago, the next morning we hur-
ried back nine miles to -Calander, the
home of Canada's Five, the Quints.
We arrived on these grounds at 8.15
and already the cars were lining up
in parking space for the 9.30 to 10
a.m. showing, and soon people eta t-
ed to line up five abreast at the gate
for entrance, it was under a l.l:zzing
sun that we spent an hour in this
way, till finally the officers came an l
opened the gates and escorted us in
to where the girls now past foe:•
years of age were playing :n their
special play grounds. The;; were on
tricycles and has little garden rake:
and other things and sure'y did Iook
cute bicking around. The girls are un-
conscious of the spectators as the:
are seen through window glass and
heavy fine -mesh brass screens. They
are an outstanding fiive little girls.
which could not be duplicated in all
of Canada and the wonderful part of
it is that they are from one mater-
nity. People not by the hundreds,
but by the thousands visit this place
each summer, coming from every
Province of Canada and many more
from every State in the Union to the
south of us, And so the show goes
on day after day, health permitting.
Leaving Calander in the morning
we found ourselves on the shores of
Lake Ontario by evening, and spent
the following day in Toronto, and
besides taking in some of the busin-
ess section we visited Toronto's artis-
tic Casa Lona, the only castle of
its kind in North America, and over
ten thousand tourists visit t:Ws e-rery
summer, the modest charge of 25c.'
is made to defray expense of the up-
keep, as the city came into possession.
of this magnificent place through tax
errors. Next time you are in Toroatc
and have not been there, it is well
worth going to see. The Art galler-
eries, Music Hall and a few other
places and the day was spent. At
the camp grounds we were staying
we learned of the living conditions of
some of the working people in a big
city like Toronto. People build ,them.
selves a trailer van and there with
their families they not alone enjoy
the warn summer :months but they
stay right in for the winter months.
Others rent the little tourist cabin;
