Haacke, warden .t• of Huron Co., fell the honor of declaring the new air- port officially open. Athers who spoke included Mayor MacEwen of Goder- ich, C. S. Hough of Plymouth, Mich. aand W. H. Golding, M.P. rat- South Huron. From the standpoint of spec- tacle in point of interest, enthusiasm and attendance, the affair should go a ' long way toward promoting the cause of 'aviation among the youth of Western Ontario. - IN5UR„ANCE PICNIC A picnic, under the auspices of The Hay Township Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance Company was held in Grand Bend on Wednesday last. Due to the fact that farmers were in the midst of taking off their harvest, the attendance wasn't as large as ex- pected. The weather was ideal and those who' attended were well :repaid for the time taken to hear the speak- ers and take part in the sports. John Armstrong, 1Presi,:,:nt of the Company, acted as Chairman of the meeting when addresses were given l,,y Innapector Rose of The Fire Mar- shall's Department, Toronto on 'Farm Fire Hazards;"' IVIr. A. •Gillanders of Ridgetown, who spoke on "Munic- ipal Fire Protection". His' address proved very. interesting especially when he gave facts" and figures to show that 'the purchase of a Fire Truck :by the Township has proven s: good investment by saving t3uusanas• of dollars worth of property a.. smar. expense to the tax payer. Mr. Van - Skiver of Picton also spoke on the value of Fire Extinguishers and gave a demonstration whereby a blazing door was soon extinguished. Several good sports were run off under the supervision of 11VLr, Oscar ;.Topp of Zurich. The soft -hall game between teams from Hay and Stephen 'Down - ships was won by the former with a good margin. The Insurance Comp- any is to be congratulated on their enterprise in putting this picnic across as they are desirious to edu- cate the public along the line of safe insurance and the prevention of Fire Naxurdr. _ 1 ".Tll:rx..rsda,y, august (Vit) :**44/44.4.4.4.4444++++.4.14.444.444. 4,++444.4.+4.44+++11*+++4,01 + + .j+ + + 4, 4, 4, •• I+ i 1+ + ,t .' r.
