TROYER REUNION
Quite a large number attended the
Ter -muxxion. at Bayfield on June
11•tlz. The day was ideal until even-
ing when a little shower of rain, it
did not dampen the spirits of those a
present, or yet the appetites who did
ample justice to the good things so
bountifully provided. The oldest pr-
esent was Mrs. Smith and the young-
est child, Dolores Cudmore. A new
committee was appointed for 1939:
President, Elmer Webster; seey-trs.,
Mrs. G. Johnston, and a committee.

43 HOURS IN CANADA
Tourists visiting Canada well be
required to remain for 48 hours be-
fore bringing back $100 worth of
merchandise duty free, by terms of
a bill approved by United States Con
grass. Agitations for the change .in
law arose from ,chambers of comm-
(erce and other organizations in bor-
der cities, which said that purchases
were being made abroad and brou-
ght into the U. S. duty free, not by
tourists, but by residents or the
border areas who were doing their
shopping across the line.
UNITS` ARE PROPOSED
A suggestion that the collegiate
and high school cadet col p 4 o.f Hur-
on and other counties should be for-
med into battalion units, was made
by Lieut -.-Col. Rance, of Clinton, a t
the annual dinner of the Middlesex -
Huron
Re men
t,
held
at
the z
moriea
Goderich. The Fp eaker advocated a
summer cadet camp for' och county,
where physical training under expert
instructions would be featured. The
'scheme, he contended, would tend to
make better citizens and develop a
deeper sense of loyalty. This was the
first get to-gether of the regiment's
officers held in c,;.orlerich's new arm-
ouries.
LACKING IN STUDENTS
A serious lack of Lutheran stud-
ents exists at Evangelical Lutheran
Seminary at Waterloo, Rev. J. 'Schn-
eder, of Kitchener reported at the
altnual Synod Meeting at Pembroke
.last week. As chairman of a special
committee appointed to investigate
conditions in the seminary, .MY..Schm
eider said children from Lutheran
homes are dropping out of school be-
tween the ages of 14 and 17. Out of
700 throughout the synod entering
high school, only 30 .graduates from
Mei form last year. The committee
recommended action be taken by the
church, through the pastor. Rev. R
B. Geelhaar, Listowel, presented the::
report for the board of governors of
the Seminary and College. The finan-
cial statement showed ;the lowest de.
Celt of its history during the past
year, a sum of about $700. Total
indebtaness was reduced. by $6,113.
The board requested adoption of its
budget, amounting to 435,235'.
