DRIVER IS CHARGED Dashwood—Edward Meier, of the Lake Road west of Dashwood, was taken into custody at Grand Bend by traffic officer and taken to ;Goderich charged with driving a car while un- der the influence of liquor. He was later released on bail to appear on Thursday at Godesich. A REAL BARN RAISING Barn raisings were not news fifty or sixty years ago. They were a very common event and every man and lad in the countryside was more or less familiar with the art of fitting together and raising into position the massive pieces of timber which make up the framework of a bairn. D7.:t times have changed. A barn racing is now a rare event. One was hall at the farm of Mr. Clarence Parke, Go- shen Line, Stanley township, on Wed nesday afternoon last. It being the weekly half holiday at Zurich, P. couple of miles away, many of the citizens came out from the village to assist, with the neighbors. Altogether •between 75 and 100 men were on hand. "It was the first barn raising many of the younger fellows had ever attended," Mr. Parke said. The older men were a' -le to sit back and +K;lt ilio•,-yo,xr,g chaps how to do it.— Seaforth News In County Court A jury of ten farmers ante two urban 'business men •nt Goderich on Wednesday last deliberated only 40 minutes before returning a verdist of not guilty on three charges against Elmer Keller, farmer near Exeter,of stealing a steer and receiving enc re- taining the same, it allegedly being the property of Fred Hoggarth, of Stephen twp. In acquitting Keller the jury disregarded testimony of Hogg- arth that when he located the steel, two months after one of his had dis- appeared, the animal recognized flim and bawled a welcome. Defence co- unsel Frank Donelly told the inry the steer's "welcome" as described by Hoggarth probably was merely a call ee, for supper, as it was feeding time. A parellel was revealed in the case when both Hoggarth and Ardold Kel- ler, brother of the accused, claimed to have raised the steer from a calf. Concluding at a two-day trial, a ses- sions jury late on Saturday evening brought in a verdict awarding Mrs. Angeline Davidson, of Thedford, the, sum of $50, against William Alexan- der, Hay Township, for trespass, ill- egal seixure and damage to a thresh- ing separator owned by Mrs. David- son. The claim was for $500, the cost of litigation is estimated at $1..- 000. Judgment was reserved as to costs. - .['AGE ETT ZIJR1CH Deliver your Cream to the Zurich Creamery and ob- tain correct weight, test and Highest Market Price.
