Denomme (bridal couple) on Monday
evening and presented thein with an
end table. A delicious lunch was
served by Mrs. Denomme and the
evening was spent in a very social
manner.
While erecting the large new smoke

Mr. Burn preached to a gou'-sized
audience on •Sunday morning el. the
Rostock church. The Burn. family
wish to express hearty thanks to their
many friends in Zurich for their
kindness during the six years ie their
stay in Zurich.
Honored on Birthday
Public 'buildings were decorated on
Thursday in London, Eng.. as Queen
Mary celebrated the 71st anniversary
of her birth. Batteries. in Hyde Park
fired the customary salute. The Dina
and Queen were the first to offer her
rongratulati ons from Buckingham.

day of the. late Queen Victoria who

Estate of $10,230
Charitable bequests to various Rom-
an Catholic organizations totaling
nearly $7,500 are provided in the will
of Fr. M. A. Brisson, first bursuar of
St. Peter's seminary, The will, dis-
posing of a $10,230 estate was filed
for probation. A total of $5,475 goes
to St. Peter's seminary. T. 3. Brisson

Sisters M. Celima and M. Amelia,
both sisters of Fr. Brisson receive
$100 ,each. Kathleen Brisson, a cous-

Erection of New School
At a .recent meeting of the Exeter
Council favorable consideration was
given to the request of the Board of
Education for the necessary money
to provide for a new building to take
cr,re of the new courses in ,show wsrk
for boys and domestic science for the
;'isle. It is estimated that the new bu-
ilding with necessary equipment will
cost about $26.500 of which the pro-
vinoail gov't will pay $11,500. The
propased site for the new two -roomed
building with basement and heating

erty south of and in line with the
front of the present building,

Wm. Geo. Shaw, young Leyden but-
cher, was on Friday last at the con-
cluelon of the trial ordered bo the lie
court of appeal, convict :d and sent-

by Judge T. M. Costello, who also
presided at the first trial. The con-
viction,.said to be without preceeunt
in Canadian courts and of far reach-
ing importance was registered on the
charge: "That you omitted to do
that which was your duty to do to
refrain Broin driving a motor vehicle
while being a per -on subject to sud-
den attacks of faintin. The charge a-
rose out of a double motor .fatality
on No. 4 niehway near Clinton on
Aug. 8, 1937 when the car he was in
charge left the road and hit a tree,
and 1YT-:. Rose Hamilton and her da-
ughter Beaty, were killed, and Shaw
and two others injured.
S. S. Workers Meet
The 13,th annual convention of the
Sunday school teachers of the Strat-
ford Conference of the :Canadian: Lu-
theran Synod was held last Tuesday
in Trinity Lutheran Church, Sebasto-
pol, near Tavistock, with 150 teach-
ers and pastors present from the dis-
trict. The session opened with an. En-
glish service in charge of ev. 0. T.
Stockman, pastor of the convention
church. Dr. Creager, of Waterloo
Seminary, spoke from the text 'My
word shall not return unto Me void."
Officers elected: President, Rev. G.
Schultz, Philipsburg; vice-pres. Jacob
Seltzer, Tavistock, Secy-treas., Ethel
M, Rudy, Tavistock. Devotions in the
afternoon session were conducted by
Rev. H. R. Mosig, of New Hamburg
in the German language. The .statist-
ical report, presented by E. Kalbflei-
sch, Tavistock, revealed that foe tee
16 schools afiiiated, there was an en-
rolment of 1,166, of which 204 were
I in German classes and 962 :n Eng-
lish classes. In all there were 170
classes with 172 teachers. Tho attcn-
danee record foe teachers was held
by East Zorra, with 96 per cenF N.
Easthope taking second place with 93
per cent. W. Koenig of New Hamb-
urg led a discussion on. "The Sunday
School and the Christian Home,"
while a paper on "The Sunday School
Teachers' Lieeary" was nre'on•ted by
Rev. E. Tuerkheimi, of Z,'"ich. The
question box was conducted by Rev.
G. !Schulte, of Philipsib>ang, and Rev.
J. Neff of Woodstock .
