During the warm weather the past week perch fishing at the lake was reported as 'being good. Messis. Geo. Armstrong, reeve, and John McBride, weed inspector of Ha Township, attended the convention of the county weed inspectors held at Clinton last Wednesday. 0. Klapp & . HERRIDGE PASSES Mrs. W. D, Berridge, wife of the United States and sister of the Rt. Hon. R. B. Bennett, former pri•.►ne minister of Canada, died in a New York hospital on May 12th, She had been ill for several weeks, but death was not expected. Mildred Bennett I-Ierridge was born at Hopewell, N.13. 48 years ago, the youngest child hi Y' a family of five. Two brothers now survive; Rt. Hon, R. B. Bennett, and Captain Ronald Bennett, of Saskville. N. 13. The remains were laid to rest in Alberta. Half Holiday Beginning with next Wednesday noon, June lst, the places of busin- ess of Zurich will be closed every Wednesday afternoon and will be observed as a half holiday. This will continue through the summer months of June, July, August and September. The public are asked to co-operate with the business men to make this possible. The council of the Township of Hay are advertising a reward of $5 to any person who kills a dog or dogs found worrying or killing sheep in th.e Township. Recently Mr. Theo: Bed- ard had.two sheep killed by dogs and Mr. Wm. T. Truernner had four kill- ed. This canine was since shot by a neighbor, Mr. Harrison Schoch. And now comes word that in the eastern part of the township the sheep are also being molested by dogs and huntsmen are on the look out. New School Work Following up the new program of school work as prescribed by the De- partment of Education, the Zurich school 'has a number of the senior pupils engaged in gardening as part of their studies. A lot in the south- west part of town has been leased and is planted to various vegetables. This will interest the pupils and is something that will be of big value in future years. Mr. Dyer spent his early life in Exeter and for a number of years was clseociated with the late Charles Senders in publishing the Exeter Advocate, later going into the print.. ;n?' business in Saginaw; Mich. It eea , in 1900 that he assisted Mr. Ed- mund Zeller in founding the •Zurich, Herald, which will soon recognize its' 38th birthday, and since its founding has been going steady.
