Land 10,000 Perch
The number of perch caught by
more than 600 amateur.fishermen in
the harbor at Goderich and just out-
side the breakwater on Sunday is
estimated at 10,000 by Capt. B. Mc-
Donald, who handled the crowd with
his eet of boats. Fishing was in pro-
gress from sunrise to sunset. It was
the biggest day he ever experienced.
Some parties had strings six and
seven feet long. Others filled potato
sacks with 30 to 70 lbs. The only
person who did not get at least 10
fish were those who do not know how
to fish. Many had over 100. The
gross •weight would run into tons.
Celebrates 88th Birthday
On Saturday, April 30th, Mrs. Jac-
ob Lindenfield of Hensall, believed to
be the oldest lady resident of that
village, quietly celebrated her 88th
birthday at the home of her daugh-
ter, Mrs. James Johnston, on which
occasion a number of her family, re -
latices and friends enjoye 1 tea with
her, and many were the hearty con-
gratulations received, coupled with a
number of fine and useful presents
and gifts, which she acknowledged in
her usually happy manner. Although
having reached such a fine old age,
her faculties are not impaired and
she enjoys life very much and takes
a great interest in current events
with a well stored memory. Mrs. Lin-
denfield is the mother of Mrs. Cyrus
Schoch of Zurich.

New Pastor
As has been previously announced
Rev. E. Burn who has been pastor
of Zurich Evangelical church for the.
past six years is retiring for a year,
and that makes a new pastor necess-
ary for the congregation. Under the
stationing system of the conference
a congregation usually has little say
in who will be their pastor, and it
was with such an impression that the
local layienty of the congregation
went to Conference. It is the hearty
feeling of the pepole of Zurich that
the stationing board did snake a good
decision in sending Rev. C. B,
Heckendorn of Port Elgin to take
charge of the Zurich work. Rev. Mr.
Heekendorn is a young man being
licensed to preach in 1925 and being
ordained as an elder in 193.0 when
the Conference was at Zurich, and
this seems quite a coincident that he
is now called upon to be pastor in
the church be was ordained a few
years ago. Mrs. Heckendorn is a
daughter of Rev. and Mrs. W. E.
13eese of Hamilton, where Mr. Bede
is also District Superintendent of the
Hamilton district, besides taking
care of the work at Hamilton. The

Rains to Improve Crops r>?'+1ir'Yid'"'e'`s'i"i"`dr'Y1
March rains, which soaked the
prairies after a warm spell, seeped'
into thawed -out farm lands to build
a welcome moisture reserve for seed-
ing, a survey of Western crop pros- I
pects showed. The rains, unusually
early, generally produced brighter
prospects than at this period last year
Moisture falling in March last season
mostly struck frozen grounds, but
the recent waren period drove the
frost from the top soil to permit en-
try of the valuable water supply.
The rainfall will prove a big help in
germination at seeding time, expect-
ed to be general about mid-April.
Each of the Prairie Provinces recei-
ved heavy spring precipitation.
Plumbing First
Whatever the spring may do to a
young man's fancy, the thoughts of
more mature househalders and their
wives turn to re -decoration at this
time of the year. However, suggests
the Canadian Institute of +Plumbing
,and heating, they should be careful
in their enthusiasm not to wait until
after decorating to get the plumiiieg
fixed. This is particularly important
in the case or homes with out-ef-style'
equipment lbecauso the antigwity of
the old tfixturos is most likely to be
accentuated by modern decoratove `aa
treatment. When planning spring
painting and decorating, considerati-1
on should be given to the desirability
of modernizing the bathroom, kitch-
en and heating system and of getting
unsightly, exposed piping concealed
behind the walls before the decorat-
ors come in. The experienced. plums--
ing contractor is also in a position to
offer many useful suggestions and
colour schemes for bathroom and I
kitchen decoration, remarks the Inst-
itute. Adding some worthwhile mod-
ernization touches to the spring de-'
conation is, Of course, enhanced by
the easy financing terms at o'rded by
iiia lmprorement Plan and eve!
