Mr. E. R. Hopper of Exeter made
a business call in town on Tuesday.
Mr. Clayton Hoffman left on Fri-
day to resume his duties as teacher
in. Galt.
Mr. Frank Wickwire, proprietor of
.the Wickwire Print 'Shop, Exeter,
gave us a friendly call on 'Tuesday.
Rev. E. Burn left Tuesday for Kit-
chener where he is attending an ex-
ecutive meeting 'of the Conference
church officials.
Mr. and Mrs. Morley Witmer,
Betty and Kenneth of Detroit spent
the week -end with Mrs. C. Decker
and other relatives.
NIr. and Mrs. Henry Steinbach,
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Howald were
Sunday visitors at London and Port
Stanley.
Mx. Wesley Richardson has leased
the 50 -acre farm of his neighbor, Mr
C. H. Blackwell, 5th concession, Hay,
for a term of one year.
Farmers are very' busy this week
as they are rushing in their spring
seeding, which is about the'average
".ime of year when this work is done.
The weather so far has been favor-
:kle for working horses, and the far-

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin, Hartman of
the Bronson line and daughter Louise
from Detroit spent last Wednesday
with Mr. and Mrs. John trartman of
Seaforth.
Mrs. C. Eilber who spent the past'
three of four, months with relatives
and friends in Hensel]. and Seaforth
districts, returned, to her home in
town on Tuesday. ,
The Men's Choir of the Evangel-
ical. church and Rev. Burn were at
Tavistock on Friday evening where
they put on a program in the Evang-
elical church.
A moving picture show was held
in the town hall, Monday evening,
and as Monday eve. is generally not
so good a night, the crowd was not
as good as could be expected, but
the program was up to usuar rorm.
'The auction sale •on Saturday af-
ternoon brought out a large number
of buyers, and everything was sold.
The dwelling property was sold to
Mr. Henry Gackstetter of the 16th
con., Hay, who will likely in time oc-
cupy the same.
MT. Henry Steinbach, superintend-
ent of Hay Township advises us that
the roads throughout the township
are now in very good condition, as
the big new grader has been used to
good advantage and the roads are
showing an improvement with the use
of this powerful new machine.
A Moving, Talking Picture shorn is
coming to Zurich Town Hall, on
Tuesday evening next. This show is
being put on by The Imperial Talk-
ing Picture Co., of London, who al-
ways put on a good program. Some
very interesting reels will be shown,
including an Extra—German Army
'nvading Austria. Come early, as

verton, got a thrill last week when he
receive:' a cable with the news that
he had won 1230, or approximately

Tax Rate 40 Mills
The Clinton Council has set the
tax .rate for 1938 at 40 mills, which
is a reduction of' three mills from Iast
year's rate. The town's waterworks
and Hydro debts are nearing the fin-
al payments and the town's finances
are in :kood condition.
Fractures Arm
Murray,. 8 -yr. -old son of Mr. and
Mrs. Medley May, of No. 4 Highway
south of Exeter, in jumping from a
swing at,=his;, home Monday last fell
and in throwing out his left arm to
break the fall, dislocated and fract-
ured the arm at the elbok. Mr. G. S.
Howard had the same misfortune to
fall and fracture both bones of his
left arm near the elbow; he was do-
ing some spring work around his
garage and was standing on a box
when the 'boards gave way and he fell
backwards.

'6Clinton Mayor Injured
Mayor George H. Elliott of Clinton
was unable to ..preside at the regular
meeting of the town council owing
to injuries sustained in a fallwhile
conducting a farm stock sale at the
farm o'1 Henry+McCutcheon, near
Walton, in the afternoon. Stepping
into a'hole in the ground he fell a-
cross some piping lying on the gro-
und and received severe injuries to
his side and for a time was thought
the ribs were broken, Unaer doctor's
examination, however, it appeared to
be torn ligaments. Mr. Elliott carried
on with the sale, though suffering
much discomfort.

way were united in marriage, the
Rev. R. M. Gale, their pastor, officiat-
ing. After the wedding the young
couple left on a trip to Michigan.
On their return they will reside on
the Blue Walter Righway.
