The heavy fall of snow during the
latter part of last week made the
spring .season a week later, and there
eras a lot of slush and mud around
for a few days, but it is all gone a-
gain, the roads are dried off and in
a few days like this the land will
start drying off and seeding operat-
ons commence.
Now that the Spring shows are
over the weather man .seems kinder
to us and ushers in warmer winds.
The annual show at Hensall on Sat-
urday was practically snowed out as
the weather was very raw and cold,
and the attendance was only about
half what it should have been if a
nice day would have greeted us. Sea -
forth and Clinton shows had similar
experiences earlier in the week.
Bill is Passed
The Legislature at Toronto declar-
^d in favor of sweepstakes by a vote
if 48 to 34. C. A. Robertson, North
Huron voted against the proposal;
fames Ballantyne, South Huron, vot-
ad for it. The vote does not mean that
an Ontario sweepstake will be estab-
lished. The Federal Parliament first
will have to .be convinced, and that
may take years to accomplish, if the
attempt ever will be succ°Ce•Ful.
Closed on Good Friday
Toronto Beverage rooms in Ont-
ario hotels will be closed Good Fri-
day, one of the two holidays on which
taverns do not do business, the Ont-
ario Liquor Control Board announc-
ed. The other day is Christmas. Liq-
uor stores, wine stores and beer
warehouses also will be closed Good
Friday.
Speeds Up Plowing
A strange sight of a motor truck
pulling a plow was witnessed in a
field near Goderich. The truck, gear-
ed to its minimum speed, kept the
man guiding the plow on a dog trot
and when he became winded, he ex -
;;hanged places with the insn behind
the wheel, the two rotating their jobs.
rhe field was plowed in about one-
fourth the time it would take a horse
drawn plow to accomplish.
Court is Cancelled
The spring session of the County
Court at Goderich, slated to be con-
ducted on Tuesday of this week by
Judge T. M. Costello, was dispensed
with when the only case on the dock-
et was not ready for trial. W. J.
Rozell, Clinton plumber, is plaintiff
in the action, with a claim against
Miss F. R. Cunninghame for $241.75
allegedly owing on a heating plant in
tallsd in the defendant':: greenhouse
by the plaintiff. 'There were three ap-
,,licants for Canadian citizenship.
They were: John Karl Lochner, Dash
wood .blacksmith; Steve Tasko, farm -

buch, Dashwood carpenter. The three
are natives. of Germany.

his wife and family, Mag. J. A. i'dak-
