was a Monday visitor in town.
Judge T. M. Costello of Goderich,
presided at the Division Court here
in Zurich on Saturday.
Mrs. A. Wury from Penn., is spend
ing a week or so with her sister, Mrs
Elmore Thiel, near Hensall.
Hay Council met on Monday after-
noon for the monthly meeting and
considerable business was transacted.
The supper held in the Evangelic-
al church basement last Thursday
evening was well attended.

will be taking a few rooms from Mr.
Simon Gingerich. Mr. Andersen will
move on May lst.

HELD OF AT TORONTO
The Ontario Municipal Board has
withheld approval of the bylaw of the
Town of Seaforth providing for the
issuing of debentures of $30,000 for
en addition to the Collegiate Institute
wilding and $5,000 for depairs to
he public school building. The Board
-tpproved the scheme so far as it pro-
vided for the public school repairs.
The remainder of the money was to
l;:o;ide aceomodation for classes in
•lomestic science and mannual train -
'ng at the Collegiate, and as this ac-
o::.odation was being provided on
)lan,s approved by the Department of
Education the ,Seaforth authorities
are una7)1e to understand the attitu-
de of the Municipal Board.

NOSE IS BROKEN
The efforts of Ray Purdy and Gord
Crawford of Goderich to geL in a
little pre -season baseball practice, en-
ded disastrously for the former. Ray
8 yrs.,, old son of Adjutant Purdy, of
the Salvation Army, was warming up
as pitcher, but he reckoned without
his chum's ability at bat. Goad wo-
uld have hit a home run if the ball
had not struck the pitcher on the
nose. Ray went to the hospital to
have:his broken nose straightened.
DEFICIT TO BE SLASHED
Canada ended the fiscal year 1937
-'38 Mar. 31,and faces a new year in
which the main estimates indicate
$418,968,000 will be spent on Gov-
ernment services, exclusive of raiP
way deficits and relief costs. Total
estimates for the fiscal year ending
on that date were $06,000,000, but
all this amount will not be spent. In
the 11 months ending Feb. 28, a
surplus of $27,000,000 in revenues
over expenditures was accomplished.
Revenues jumped $68,000,000 to
1471,000,000, while expenditures in--

and Mrs. Wm. Farrel. Mr. Ayotte
being a brother to Mrs. Farrell.

were week -end visitors with Miss B.
Mousseau.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Laporte of
St. Clair, Mich., visited with friends
here over Sunday.
Mrs. Primeau of Chicago called on
friends here for a few days.
Mrs. Elmer Dewey of Grand Bend,
and Mrs. Rachel Denomme spent Sun-
day at the Gelinas home.
