Are conditions any better for our Ontar- io boys than that? .Will our legis- lators answer. And the traffic is also alert to meet another growing demand, viz: Beverage rooms for girls. This i an age we are told woman's emanci- pation, northers and some grandmoth- ers too have advanced and modern methods of developing the delicate esthetic and domestic instincts o their daughters. So to be consistent heir argument would be something like this: If our young girls are al- lowed and indeed sometimes encour- aged to dress like boys, jump hurdles with the :boys, and swim with the boys, why not cigarettes with the boys, and cocktails just around the !corner. We are told education not Legislation, is the panacea for ell thrc ills. Educate is the word. Educate ;the boys and girls at home and at school to hate liquor and all will be well. And that argument seemingly iworked out well until suddenly, like a ;bolt from the blue came to parents land school -teachers the shock of 'their life time, when the Prime Educator of the Province—The Minister of Ed- ucation forsooth—so prostituted his high and honorable office to the level of the traffic and became tris main influence in the retrograde steps whi- ch' were then taken to establish the beverage room menace as we have it today. In this respect the breweric and distilleries owe a great debt of gratitude to edication. —Dr. A.
