In an article recently published re-
garding celebration of Anniversary
of Mr, and .Mrs. Q. Ducharme, Sr.,
of Birch Point (Point au Bouleau)
has caused the younger generation to
put forth questions to the older set
tiers, and after a careftil search of its
records of this French Settlement ire
note a sharp point at that spot on the.
Lake beach and along its bank a
thicket of birch trees (Bouleau) and
again comes to light a Mr. Joachim
Masse, had !built a little hut at •that
particular spot and had lived . there
many years. Now, we are at a loos
to explain its origin, and where its

A very successful quilting was
held on Thursday afternoon in the
basement of the Evangelical church.
On Tuesday evening a very '-pleas-
ant surprise party was held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Fisher
in honor of their daughter Thelma's
21st birthday. The evening was :spent'
in cards and dancing, after which •a
dainty lunch was served by the lad-
ies. All report a very pleasant thane'
Mr. Reuben Goetz lost a very val-
uable horse on Tuesday.
Zion Lutheran church held its an-
nual meeting on Monday January'
17th. The financial report of `the
congregation and organization with-
in the church were presented and all
of them showed a healthy state of
affairs. Messrs. Martin Laub and
Garnet Willett were -elected trustees
for a terra of three years and the
caretking wasgiven to Mr. Ted Mil-
ler. Other routine matters of busin-
ess were disposed of under the able
chairmanship of 1VIr. Louis T. Rader.

Annual Meeting
The annual meeting and election
of officers of the South Huron Agra
cultural Soeiety was held at the New
Cornmereial Hotel here Saturday lase.
It was the largest annual mos;:ing
held nn years and a great interest
was shown in the proceedings. Diff-
erent reports were given ahowing the
society to be in a splendid financial
condition and with an increased me-
mbership, All the old officers were
re-elected. Arrangements were made
te hold the annual seed Show in Fee
ruary and the Spring Show of horsa
and cattle in the early spring.
'Death of Miss Slavin
Miss Ida Jane Slavin; a resident of
the •Chiselhurst district, near here.
died. on Saturday in Windsor, in her
38th year. Death was due to pneu-
monia which developed from a cold.
She was taken ill while visiting Win-
clsor, The remains were brought •te
the family residence and the funera;
was held' on Tuesday afternoon. In• ..
terment •:n McTaggart's Cemetery.
Surviving are her father, Wm. Slavin
four brothers Wm., Fred and Grant
at home, and Thomas, on a farin near
by, and two aunts, the Misses ,Slavin
of Hensall.
Death of Wm. Kloosterman
Wm. Kloosterman, a highly resp-
ected resident of the district for over
15 years, passed away et Dr. Moir's
hosl'tal, Sunday last. Several months
ago he was stricken with a cancer in
his throat. He was a native of Holl-
and, corning to this country about 15
years ago. He was a strong robust
man, a splendid worker, and his ser-
vices were always in demand by the
district farmers, spending about 10
years employed with Hugh McEwen
of the 2nd con. of Hay Twp. He
was 38 years .of age and had no •xe-
latives in this country. The funeral
took place from Dr. Moir's hospital, !.
.with interment in the Exeter cemet-
ery. Rev. A. Sinclair officiating.

Dashwood Lady Wins Blanket
Mrs. Wm. Gossman, of Dashwood,
won a beautiful blanket in drawing
conducted by the Robin Hood flour
at Chatham. The drawing consisted

was painfully injured while waking
at<'the Western Canada Flour Mill,
:'oder idh, his arm being badly torn in
•n; /belt. He •was taken to the Hospital
and :the ,injured member x=rayed, but
no •bones were broken. The 'lacerati-
ons were stitched up by the doctor.

new duties began January 1st.
Returns to Clinton
Dr. J..A. Addison has recently re-
turned to 'Clinton from Victoria, B.C.
Where he has been doing some post-
graduate work In the Royal Jubilee
Hospital. He is sharing in 'Medical
Practice with Dr. Hearn, whose health
has net ',been good for :some time. Dr
Alitlison"is quite well-known in town
as `lis ;parents have resided here for

Alexander Mackenzie formerly of
Kincardine has retired from the Bo-

bration of the 35th wedding anniver-
