Mr. and Mrs. Peter Manson, of
Hensall were in town on Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Herb Mousseau mot-
ored to Detroit over the week -end. •
Friends are pleased to learn that
Mr. George Clausius, just north at
town, is able to up and around again
after his recent stroke.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Oliver of Lon-
don, have returned home after sp-
ending some time at the hoarse of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weber.
Mrs. Samuel Koehler and son, Mr.
Nelson Koehler, of the State or In-
diana, are visiting with relatives 2n
this vicinity.
11:Ir. and Mrs. Garnet Walper of
Detroit who spent a few weeks with
relatives here, left for that city over
the week -end.
The members . bf the local Gun
P Club have been busy when the wea-
ther is favorable and some nice bags
have been reported, 90 being the -high
est so far.
Mr. and 1\1rs. Henry ;Steinbach
and Mr. Hy. Howald were at London
one 'day last week where they called
on the former's son, Mr. Orville Ste-
inbach who is quite ill.

Grand Bend on Monday .Of last week
where they cast 'their ,votes being

Miss Alpha Meyers who met with
a fal at the local skating link when
attending a skating party which was
held by the First Form at school, it
beinga bad bruise on her left hip.
Alpha is getting along real well and
intends to be back at school again
next week.

Don't forget, January 15th is the
absolute deadline for driving of mot-
or vehicles without the new 1938 li-
censes. After that date traffic offi-
cers have been instructed to prose-
-ate owners ofcars with the old 1937
license plates.
Wires Were Down
IOn the' Blue Water Highway a
ehoit distance north of Grand Bend,
aoout half a mile of telephone wires
and pales were down owing to the
recent storm. The wires had become
sheathed in ice and the poles were
broken from the weight and the
wind. The wires were a tangled
mess but have since been repaired by
the linemen.

System $350.00; For Twp. roads $20
Assessor $100 and postage; Caretak-
er of hall $45.00; For thansients, 25c
per meal and 25c for looking after
fire; Vveed Inspector 35c hr. for time
employed including .transportation;
Road Supt. 35c hr. for time employ-
ed including transportation; Select-
ion of Jurors: Clerk $5, Reeve and
assessor each $2; Board of Health $1
per meeting; Sanitary Inspectors 50
cents for placing and removing cards
in country and 45c in Zurich and
Dashwood and 10c per mile one way;
50c for disinfecting 'a house; $2 for
inspecting Zurich; $1.50 for Dash-
wood and $1 Blake and 1cc per mile
done way, and that the Clerk prepare
the necessary by-law confirming the
same for passing at next Council me-

chartered accountants, Stratford, be
appointed to ,audit the township and
telephone accounts of the Township
of Hay for 1937.
That by-law No. 11-1937 authoriz-
ing the Reeve and Clerk to sign the
Bill of Sale covering purchase of
line and equipment from the Tucker-
smith Municipal Telephone System be
read three timeso and passed.
That the Clerk purchase a set of
the 1937 Revised Statutes of Ontario
for' use of Township Officials.
That the annual meeting of the
subscribers of the Hay Mnn cipa?
Telephone .System be held at the
Town ,Hall, Zurich, on Monday, Feb-
ruary 7th, 1938, at two o'clock in the
afternoon.
That the fidelity bond of $10,000.
bonding the Township Treasurer with
the Employers' Liability Assurance
Co., be renewed for one year.
The •first meeting of the Council of
the Township of Hay for the year
1938 was held in the Town Hall, Zur-
',1., on Monday, January 10th at 11
:';;lock in the forenoon as provided
?or in The Municipal Act. The foll-
owing su'scribered to the Declaration
of Office: Reeve, George Armstrong;
Councillors: Roland Geiger, Fred J.
Haberer; William Haugh and Max.
Turnbull. The Council then became
organized.
Numerous communications were
disposed of during the sitting.
The following; resolutions were pas-
sed: That the following he appointed
as officials for the Township of Hay
for 1938: Clerk and Treasurer, A. F.
Hess; Assessor, W. H. Edighoffer;
Caretaker of hall, J. Albrecht; Weed
Inspector, Geo, Merrier; Member of
Board of Health, J. Geiger; Sanitary
Inspectors: Eastern Div., B. C. Ed-
wards; Zurich and vicinity, J. P,
Rau; Dashwood and vicinity, C. P.
Pfile, School Attendance Officers;
Eastern Div:, W. R. Dougall; West-
ern Div., E. B. Horner; and that the
Clerk prepare the necessary by-law
for passing at the nett Council meet-
