The collectors who were appointed

HAS 3 -DAY SESSION
Toronto—First session of Ontarios
20th Legislature, a special one, was
prorogued Friday last by Liet.-Gov..
Albert Matthews, who opened it Wed
nasday. The House was actually in
session only four hours of the three
day sitting. The session, briefest on
record, was called by the Governm-
ent to pass thrce measures designed
to speed collection of overdue succes-
sion duties. These three measures
were given third reading without div-
ision.
DIES AT LUCKNOW
John Joynt, member of the Legis-
lature 1919-26, died at his home in
Lucknow last Wednesday, aged 81
years. Native of Ireland, he was a
selfmade man, owning 1,400 acres in
Huron County at time of death, and
-ngaged in many successful industri-
'1. enterprises during his lifetime. In
early days he engaged in the potash
business. rns a large exporter of
hardwood ashes for making soap, op-
erated apple evaporator at Lucknow,
Tee.swater and Walkerton. He had
hundreds of acres of orchards and
did a large export apple business.

OLDEST COUPLE
and Mrs. Oscar Ducharme, of
Hay Township, will celebrate the 64th
anniversary of their.wedding on Jan-
uary 8th next. Mr. Ducharme, who
is'; 89, and his wife. 82,,, are the oldest
couple in the Township. They are
the:parents of ,Mrs. .Sol; Williams of
Seaforth. .Both enjoy perfect health.

their final convention session at Tor-

of j depression •Canada got away to a
good start this year, but after fine
spring.; and summer business carne a
period •"of doubt and uncertainty.
Some managements were now doubt-
ful, of
oubtful,of accepting_ 1938 advertising ap-
propriations, but he believed "we
shall be wise to share ,the opinion of
United States business leaders when
they say steady progress upward will
be•resumed in 1938." Agricultural,
except for Saskatchewan, industry
and retail trade had boomed in Can-
ada this year. He looked for •a new
record of newsprint production in the
coming 'year.
CYCLONE HOCKEY NEWS
A well attended and enthusiastic
meeting of the hockey fans took place
in `?rhe Council Chamber, Town Hall,
Meisel', on Friday eve. last. Discuss-
ion; took place as to the advisability
of ^entering .a Hensall team in the 0.
H. A. Int was finally decided to re-
vive the Cyclone League, consisting
of teams from Hensall, Zurich, Exet-
er and Dashwood. This week repres-
entatives of the four clubs are to
meet in the village to draw up a sch-
adult for the winter. The following
oflipers were elected for the Hensel'
Hockey Club: Hon. Pres., Wm. Gold-
ing M.P., James Ballantyne, M.L.A.,
President, Geo. Brock; Secy-treas., C

ter • of Galt, and Lewis Wakefield,
Moorefield aged 21 and 22 yairs re-
spectively, pleaded guilty to 24 char-
ges;of burglary in tour Western Ont-
ario counties at G*oderich last Thurs-
day and were sentenced to five year:,
each in Kingston penitentiary •i y 1V1ag

run concurrently. The young men ad
mitted breaking, entering, and ~:teal-
ingy ca's'h and jewelry from rive resi
deuces' in Huron 1County, six in Ox-
ford, 12 in Wellington with a total
value of 4'1000. The loot consisted
of watches, rings, ear rings, neck-
laces, Cameras, medals, alarm clocks
children's money banks. The jewelry
was sold for old gold, and the money
dissipated, Virtually, nothing of val-
