Mother of Five Who
Was Always Tired
Now Awakes as Fresh as a 1;047183/
A nu/Wier of five has a lot to do,
Especially a country mother. And
this one was "always tired,' k'?t'.
Kruschen ended all that -now one
gets up, feeling fresh, at five o'cloek
in the morning! She writes:
"I find Kruschen Salts the best
thing Money can buy for my health.
I am the mother of five children,
and before taking Krusehen, 1 was
always feeling tired and run deem.;
Now, i am glad to say that I get up
feeling fresh --and I get up at five'
o'clock in the morning. I do . my.
housework, look after my children,
and leave the house at 6:30 to start
my daily work." -(Mrs.) B.
Tiredness and that run-down fee-
ing can be traced to one root cause.
That cause is internal sluggishness;
failure to keep the inside free from
poisonous, waste matter.
ICrusehen Salts is an excellent
recipe for maintaining a condition
of internal cleanliness. The nu ner
ous salts in Kruschen stimulate yogi
internal organs to smooth, regultix
action. Your inside is thus kept clear
of those impurities which, when al-
lowed to accumulate, lower the whole
tone of the system.
Physician Gave
Wlmself Cancer
Hopes to Prove Theory That Can-
cer May Be Transmitted by
Direct Inoculation
A Little, grey-haired Cuban physician
sat in his study at Havana the other
night, occasionally rubbing -several lit-
tle hard spots on his left arm which
may eventually cause his death from
cancer.
But to Dr. Matias Duque, Cuba's
first Secretary of Public health, these
little risings under his skin meant
something more important than the
life of one human being.
He hopes they will prove his theory
that cancer may be transmitted from
one person to another by direct in-
oculation and thus provide a specific
clue for the development of a cure
for the disease that takes hundreds of
lives annually.
Voluntary "Guinea Pig"
Last October 3 the 70 -year-old doc-
tor became a voluntary "human guinea
pig" for cancer experiment. He had
himself inoculated four times with
"filtrates of cancerous elements,"
taken from a cancerous tumor re-
moved from a woman patient.
Small subcutaneous hardnesses are
now appearing where he was inoculat-
ed. They have been developing slowly
for nearly a month.
Dr. Duque says he cannot yet class-
ify the little clots, but believes they
may be the beginning of a cancerous
growth. =,
The doctor gave up regular prac-
tice years ago to devote the rest of
his life to cancer research, after tivo
members of his family died from the
disease.
Boars Win From
Bears In Battle
A fight to the death between wild
boars and bears recently occurred in
Yugoslavia. The boars won.
The battle followed a huge drive
by peasants against the animals
which had been doing tremendous
damage to crops in the district. This
hunt led to several families of bears
and a pack of boars being corner-
ed in a forest glade. Then the fun
started. The animals forgot the
hunters and started a free fight.
Boars and bears fought desperate-
ly for an hour and then the bears
fled, leaving a number of dead be-
hind them.

Declared 1 -Ion, Newton Rowell at
Opening Session at Winnipeg
of the Royal Commission On
Dorraislion-3'rovincial` Relations.
The same spirit of tolerance, cour-
age and faith which enabled the
,'Fathers of Confederation to achieve
Canadian unity 70 years ago, will en-
able the Canadian people to solve all
their present problems, !don. Newton
Rowell declared at Winnipeg before
the initial session of the Royal Com-
mission on Dominion -Provincial Reim
done.
Commission's Task
He declared the commission's task
was
1. To re-examine the economic and
financial heels of Confederation and
the distribution of, fegislativ-e pot ers
in the light of economic and social
developments of the last seventy
years.
2. To investigate the character and
amount of taxes collected from the
people of Canada and to determine
whether taxation as at present allocat-
ed and imposed is as equitable and as
efficient as can be devised.
3. To examine public expenditures
and public debts in general in order
to determine the ability of the Domin-
ion and Provincial governments to
discharge their constitutional respon-
sibilities within the frame work of the
present allocation of powers or on the
basis of some form of reallocation
thereof.
Seek Balance of Relationship
4. To investigate the whole ques-
tion of Dominion subsidies and grants
to provincial governments. This nec-
essarily involves the question of
whether a system of subsidies and
grants to provincial governments is
the best method of enabling provincial
governments to discharge their re-
sponsibilities or whether there are
more effective alternatives.
5. Following these inquiries the
commission is instructed "to consider
and report upon the facts disclosed
by their investigations and to express
what, in their opinion, subject to the
retention of the distribution of legis-
lative powers essential to a proper
carrying out of the federal system in
harmony with national needs and the
Promotion of national unity, will best
effect a balance of relationship be-
tween the financial powers and the ob-
ligations and functions of each, gov-
erning body and conduce to a more
efllcient, independent and• economical
discharge of governmental responsi-
bilities in Canada."

CHRISTMAS TIMES
Oh, what joy there is in living on
Christmas;
What a charm there is in living
on Christmas.
What a pleasure 'tis to see
children dancing
Merrily tround the decorated tree
on Christmas,
Is your heart becoming a little
more soft?. . . That's the spirit of
Santa Claus, coming only once a
year, but splendid even for so short
a while.
Visitor -Do you think it is proper
to use profanity to a mule?
Farrier -So far as my own feel-
ings are concerned it is highly un-
proper. But when you are trying to
get along with as sensitive and ex-
acting an animal as a mule, you've
simply got to humor him.
"Of all the things you wear, your
expression is the most important."
She -Funny no one seined to reaI-
ize what a bad egg he was while he
was rich.
He -My dear, a bad egg is only
known when it's broke.

First -When they hear it.
Second -When they tell it.
Third -When they understand it.

Ted --- Oh, Battling )Bloke, the
fighter, is leaving a tooth pulled.
One of ,the big secrets of happi-
ness is to tackle our work joyously,
To attack it with gusto and a smile,
To wade into it with the spirit of
a conquering chief. When one
works joyously at the wood pile, the
ledger, or the typewriter, the hours
flash by, the sunshine enters our
heart end the world seems a good
place in which to live.
To come to our work with a
grouch, a frown, and inward reluct-
ance, is to cram our creative en-
ergies and stifle our power to think.
The joyous spirit is the spark that
gets things done! It releases a ;flow
of ideas. It makes the chips fly,
J'oyousnese attracts the best.
Tourer -So your daughter is" go-
ing around the world during the
Christmas holidays. Is she prepared
for the journey?
De Tourer -Well, she can say
"NO" in 12 languages.
"Of all sad words of tongue, or
pen, the saddest are these: -"Don't
open till Christmas."
Traveler -Can I get anything to
eat in this dump?
Negro Waiter -Yes, sah, yo' s11o'

Traveler -Su ch as what?
Negro Waiter -Such as it is, sah.
The train roared past the station.
Above the noise the station agent
heard a yell. Rushing out to the
platform, he saw a man sprawled out
alongside the tracks, A little girl
was standing:

Little Girl -I -Ie did catch it, but it
got away from hint.

Northern Snowshoe Rabbits Are
Found to "Die Off" every

The popular belief that' ilia snow-

in a report on a four-year study of
hare periodicity, just published. The
cycles are nearer 10 years in length
on the average, it is stated.
The study was made by Dr. D. A.

the department of biology, University
of Toronto, and the Royal Ontario
Museum of Zoology.

Hare populations were found to vary

Thief Sells Goods
In Owner's Absence
A furniture dealer was recently
asked to call at a house and value
some goods. When he arrived he was
met by a woman in a dressing -gown
who showed Ilim round and offered
him some real bargains. The dealer
jumped at the offers, loaded the bar,
gains on his van, paid cash and drove
away.
Two days later he discovered that
he had not removed all the goods he
had bought. He went back to the
house but could get no reply. Then
out came a neighbour who informed
him that the tenants were on holi.

Hospital For ickChildren
Paralysis Epidemic Re-.
minds Province of
Type of Service Given
Every Day For 62
Years
Like a spectre out of the dark ages,
Infantile Paralysis (Poliomyelitis)
appeared in Ontario homes late Iast
July.
Rich and poor, old and young city
dweller and farmer -all were hit.
Appearing without warning, striking
where least expected, the horror
spread. By late August an epidemic
of major proportions was with us.
School opening was postponed over
a great portion of Ontario. Children
died before they could be' rushed to
hospitals,
Nearly every parent in the Pro-
vince was concerned and took what
precautions seemed best to have
children avoid contacts which might
bring the ghastly plague to them.
But mystery still shrouds the way
in which this dread disease is spread.
might be provided the only possible
chance for life during the Iater
stages o_ the disease.
Thus was the emergency met : y
The Hospital for Sick Children when
many lives were at stake. There
was no thought of expense or human
limitations. The job had to be done,
and was done despite the tact that
it meant night and day service for
many, many weeks.
But this is just typical of the ser-
vice The Hospital for Sisk Children
has rendered for over 60 years.
Every hour of every day and night
some emergency must be met. The
life of a child, precious to some
