A long needed improvement has
been made in .the local telephone cen-
tral office, as a counter has been er-
ected and the customers are now
required to •remain on their side of
the counter to do theirbusiness.
The scholars of the public schools
of the district enjoyed two days of
holidays last week, Thursday and
Friday, as their teachers were away
to Goderieh attending the Teachers'
Convention.
Messrs. C. Fritz and Well. Johnston
are away to Peele Island where they
will enjoy the two -day's pheasant
shooting, and where •a large number
of these game birds are hatched each
year.

The Zurich Agricultural Society
officials recently held a business me-
Ieting and carefully checked over the
fair accounts of this year, and t he
Secretary -Treasurer was instructed
to pay out the prize monies. Quite
different to some years recently,
when a nice .balance was left over,
but this year they will be obliged to
use up about $150 of their balance
on hand from former years, and they.
are fortunate to• have such. balance,
as. some societies are obliged to bor-
row money to pay the prizes.
Huron Loses Hockeyists
Huron County hockey stars are
.being picked for service in larger,
centres and as a ,result the ,Clinton
Colts, who went for last season in
the semi-finals, have lost ' Harold
Stade, the competent net minder,
who figured largely in their long list
of games won. Harold, whose home
is in Zurich, has accepted a position
with a Montreal team and has gone
