Political Broadcasts
If one listens to the various radio
political broadcasts these days it will
be a very 'busy time in doing so.
In most cases the politicians are spe-
nding a lot of money and not reach-
ing the class of people that they so
desire, as someone said, "the Grits
listen only to the Liberal talks, while
.the Torys listen only to the; Conserv-
ative talks." And there is a gird,
deal of truth about it. The best kind
of advertising for such purposes is
still the newspapers. What think ye?
More Provincial Highways •
While in town last weep James
Ballantyne, Liberal member for -S..
Huron, stated that approximately, 37
miles of count roads have been
taken over by the Province. The
roads are a 26 mile stretch from
Busse/dale, on highway No. 23, thr-
ough Exeter and Dashwood to Grand
Bend on No. 21; and from Hensall on 1
No. 4 through Zurich to St. Joseph'
on No. 21 an eleven -mile stretch. Mr
Ballantyne also 'stated that the road •
from Holmesviile via Varna: to Zur-
ich had been incorporated in the co
unty road system.—Goderich Signal.
Some 40,000 Short
Reports of the attendance • of the
Western Fair at London held during
the past week are that the attend-
ance is some 40,000 short of last year
which means an enormous shortage
in receipts to the Society. 40,00
short at the gate means $10,000 less
than last year, and this does not
allow for what would have been •tak-
__ .en in at the Grand Stand, which is
41111011.11111.1.11111111.11M1 twice the admission charge.
Cold and rainy weather with the
1 scare of infantile paralysis was also
a big factor in the decrease of at-
tendance. Owing to this serious epi-
demic, wt understand that Goderich
and Blyth Fairs have been cancelled:
The Zurich and Bayfield Fairs, will
be held as advertised next week.
. Bread Gone Up
Bread, the staple food of human
life has advanced one cent during
the past week. Local bakers in town
and surrounding towns have advanc-
ed
dvanc ed to l0cts. a loaf. We are told.iihat • Zuric F,
• this has become necessary owing to Foste ' c. f.
• the increased prices of all the in-
• gredients that go to make up the
ordinary loaf of bread. There are
many .things that we eat that can
• .be substituted, but bread is one
thing we must have, and now must
pay lc. a leaf more. The good old
days :of the 5c. loaf and the 12c lb.
beefstake are gone forever, and our
future generation will never see these
prices again prevail, as we did when
us middleaged people were in our
teenage.
