Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Denomme cel•
ebrated their 25th wedding anniver-
sary on Saturday evening. Their two
daughters Grace and Florence from
London, were home and. a good time
was enjoyed in dancing, :and a rine
lunch was served.
Sorry to report that 1VIrs. John
Laporte was taken to London Hos-
pital and operated on for mastoid
trouble.
Owing to the heavy rains the
land is so soaked that farmers have
not been able to do any work on the
lands.

Mrs. Ja"s. Stephenson was operated
on in Goderich Hospital last week,
and is progressing favorably. We
hope for her speedy recovery.

The annual meeting of the Cred-
iton Evangelical Church was held last
Monday evening. A short devotion-
al service was conducted by the Pas-
tor Rev. Pletch after which the bus-
iness of the evening was conducted.

W.M:S,—The W.M.S.",Society was
held in the church on Wednesday af-
ternoon, April 14th, with Miss Annie
Jarrott presiding: Call; to worship,
Mark 1:1.6-20 and hymn 358 opened
the meeting. The devotional leaflet,
"Jesus in t''he Villages" • and prayer.
■ The scripture 'lesson was taken from
St. Mark 10:25 -451t -led by Mrs. H
Turner and read responsively. Hymn
388. The secretary's and treasurer's
reports were read and adopted. The
roll was called and answered by 12
points for Annie Jarrott's group and
6 points for Mrs. 'W. Turner's group.
The study "Men and Women of Par
Horizons" was taken to the end of
the second chapter by Mrs. R. Con-
sitt, Mrs. R. Love and Annie Jarrott.

56th Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Dobbs .cele-
brated the 56th wedding anniversary
on April 13th at their home in Lu -
can. 55 persons were present at the
dinner, and'the coupl& received many
congratulations.
Not to Lose Use of Eye
Lois Burchill, the four year old
Wingham girl whose eye was punc-
tured with the point of a pair of
scissore while she was playing with
her young brother, will not Iose the
sight of the eye. She has been un-
ddr treatment in the Siek Children's
,H'aspital, Toronto, and it is thought
her sight will not be iinpaired:

A Morning, Fire
Fire broke out fn a bedroom at
the home of Wilfred McLean, God-
erich, but prompt action of the fire
department prevented the fire from
spreading. Considerable damage was
done by smoke. The fire was exting-
uished by chemicals. It is believed a
stovepipe passing through the room;
!became overheated, causing the fire.
A Home Burns
Want Cheaper Hydro.
Not having as yet received an 'an- -
swer from the ILE.P.C. of Ontario,
to its request for a 25 per cent. re-
duction in domestic and commercial
lighting service charges the Goderieh
Public Utilities Commission has pas-
sed a motion directing a letter be.
sent asking for an early decision. The
original request was made more than,
a month ago, and while it was ack-
nowledged, no action was taken.
Big -Bruce Bear .
Chased by a three -hundred pound
black bear, Robt. .McNall,, near Irnz
cardiae had to flee for his life. Wor-

nted by. a- bear, which is.believed to
have wandered out of.. Greenee
swamp. The animal refused to, be
frightened by noise made by Mc -Nail'
banging a pail, and snarling, kept.

The Tax Collector of Stephen Twp
has returned his' 1936 tax roll to the
treasurer. The rattepa.yers are to be
congratulated ,on: the manner in whi-
ch they paid .their, taxes. Out of a
total levy .of'; l45,022.58 there is on-
ly $360.18 uncollected.

Dashwood's total of hydro reserves -
and surpluse is now $15,451 item-,
