The past week has given us the
most steady winter weather that• we
have had for months. However, the
sun is becoming stronger and with.
the weather getting milder up in the
north, we would not be surprised if
spring would be ushered in over the
weekend. There is practically no
snow on the ground.

ATTENTION -Huron Co. Farmers!'
The Huron County ' Agaucultural Re
;presentative wishes at this time . to
dratw your attention to a series of
farmers' meetings which will be held
in the County from March 23rd to
April -7th inclusive. The meetings
far this part of the County will be
as follows:
Tuesday, March 23rd 2 p.m. Town
%Tali, Elianville_
Tuesday, March 23rd 8 p.m. Town-
ship hall, Crediton
'Wednesday, :March 24th 8 p,m. lawn-
•. ship Hall, VVar la_
These' meetings will be addressed
by dpr, Lionel Stevenson, of the staff
Of the Ontario College at Guelph.
Dr. Stevenson will speak on the two
subjects, Contagious Abortion and.
Mineral Deficiency Disease. Both
these subjects should be of real in-
te est to every farmer in the County,
as w -must" ust " admit that Contagious
A ortion is causing considerable fin -
a , lel loss to farmers in this .County.
D nag the 'last few years farmers
li a had some experience with mics
1, defreiencies and we are quite
e tthat, yoni will welcome an appor-
tuiiify of hearing an authority disc -
u tbese two conditions. Every
er in the, County should plan
attend one ;of these meetings, Tell
r neighbors about
Messrs. Albert Iialbfleisch and, f'
Ward Fritz motored to London one t'
day last week, and on the way be -1y1
came involved in a bad mixup
several cars who came rapidly up a
hill and as there was a bread truck
stopping on the highway, the oncom-
ing traffic could not step in the
short distance required, and these
cars helplessly slid into the ditches.;
Ward and Albert seemingly took a.
ride in the field, but their tar was
not injured, as was the case with
some other ears in the mixup. A
traffic officer let his motor cycle on
the road and along came a car and
hurled it over to the fence. It is
a dangerous thing at any time to
leave your truck of year stand out
on the highway blocking the traffic.
There is plenty of provisions made
on the side of the pavement for park
ing purposes.
NEW FIRE CALL
The Ontario Fire Marshall's office

phone System that a standard fire 1
alarm call has been fixed for all tele-
phone systems in the Province. The
call is one very long ring and the
local system has .adopted this stand-
ardized call. The call takes prece-
dence to all other calls and subserib-
ees should govern themselves accord-
ingly, It is indeed to big advantage

EED CLEANING IMPORTANT
`VLany •natii.raI uncontrollable riga;
't be taken in producing crops.
are are, however, nian.y factors
-enter into crop production whr-
are controllaible. Among these is
preparation of grain for seed.
is is a farm job that can usually
ib' done during the five months after
reshing in the fall to within one
nth of seeding in the spring. When
eaning and grading of seed is left
'til the busy seeding time, the work
sometimes rushed and consequent -
not so carefully done. Best results
e obtained when the capacity of
eeseed :cleaning and grading mach -
i :e es is not overtaxed. Mand machines
tro much better work whew they air.
pperated considerably under tTteir
,4bmmercially rated capacities. It se -
ms to he a good plan to have the
Work of preparing seed done when
the weather is favourable, and at
least one month before seeding.
There are three main reasons for
leaning 'seed, namely, the removal
o" weed seeds; to retain well devel-
oped.eeeds of thigh vitality, andto
have seed of uniform size and free.
_dory[ from obstructions. The annual
loss rue to weed seeds is very great.

becomes more essential. Noxious w'
