Predicting -'the day not far off when
farmer's wives on the sidelines and
.concessions would no longer be an-
toyed in summer months 'by the in-
tonveniences caused by ' the dust
nuisance, because of the increasing
- use of salt in building roads' on the
lesser travelled throughfares, T. R.
• Patterson., Huron County engineer.,
e.dciressed the Lions Club at Goder-
ich at its monthly luncheon. Mr
Patterson, whose father was. county
engineer before him, told of road
building and its administration from
the days of the Canada Company to
the present. Stating that salt roads
had been proven by experiment to be
a practical success where traffic was
not too heavy, he forcast they would
eventuaI'ly elirninate the peed of
yearly aprpicetions of oil or calcium
chloride to lay the dust. A salt road
he said, could be built for $200 a
mile and would stand up at least 3
years without maintenance. 15
tons ef salt, mixed with clay and
gravel and rolled, was sufficient for
each mile and provided a hard, dust -
