In Magistrate's Court Claire Beecher, of Goderich, was acqUitted on a charge of driving a motor vehicle while under the inbu- ence of liquor, in Mag. Hawkshaws' court at Exeter last Friday. Several hours were spent in hearing the case which arose out of an incident that took place last November in Henrall when Baechler's car, corning onto the main street, slid. partly ac- ross the street and then started up again, coming into collision with an- other car. Beecher saidhe had two bottles of beer. A large number of witnesses were called which differed in opinion of Baechlor's condition. A number of minor cases were dealt with, the defendants having operated their cars lacking either a driver's permit or 1937 plates. An interesting case that of Wm. Smale who had made a wood -cutting apparatus from a car with a belt and pulley attach- ed to the drive shaft. It cost the ow- ner $24 in all to find out that he should. have had a diver's permit and plates for the car. At Goderich two stubbornly fought drunk driving charges were .heard by Mag. Makin on Thursday brought a term of 14 days in jail to Wm. McClure, Dun- gannon coal merchant, and dismissal for Lewis Ellwood, Goderich salt trucker. Both face added charges ef leaving the scene of an accident, -while a friend Gordon McDonald, during the court hearing was served on a recyless driving charge. • . ••Y••••••••••••••.••••*•• Leavitt's Theatre EXETER — ONT.
