Owing to Painful Rheumatism
This woman suffered from rheumae
teem in her back, arms rind legs..
For two months,. she endured this
painful conaition, then, like many
another sufferer, she decided to try
laruschen Salts. Read her letter:-
"Abeut fifteen months ago 1 had
rheumatism in my arms, baek and
legs. The pains in ma arms and legs
after getting warm in bed were al,
most unb•earable, It was like that
for two months, and eould not reach
above my head. I read so much
about .Kruschen Salts that I thought
,would try them. 1 am so glad. to

The pains and stiffness of rheuma-

There are over 70 varieties of

famous hard or sugar maple which

Sun Treatments
New Instrument Estimates
Exact Dose Required
It is now possible to measure ac-
curately the amount of energy given
to the individual receiving sun treat-
ment, writes Dr, Ethel Browning, in
New Health Magazine, and also the
way in which each individual reacts
to this amount. Instead of exposing
any weakly individual haphazard to
any source of light for any length
of time, the exposure is carefully
regulated according to the type of
lamp and the reaction of the patient.
For measuring the latter, Sir Leon-
ard Hill and Eidinow have introduc-
ed a method of estimating the ex-
act dose required, using an instru-
ment sailed a "sensitometer." This
consists of a round aluminium plate
to which is attache' a clockwork
mechanism which gradually moves a
small screen covering a hole in the
plate. The apparatus is placed over
the skin and the test area exposed
for different periods to the ray:,
from the lamp; the erythema, or
redness of tbe skin, produced is used
to determine the extact amount
which will be most beneficial.
This exactitude, which was une
known to the pioneers in this
branch of scientific treatment, is of
great value in obtaining the best re-
sults from exposure to artificial sun-
light without discomfort or injury
to the patient.

Cancer
Writes the New York Times: -Ir
a precious papyrus long in possession
'of the New York Historical Society,
written in the seventeenth century
B.C., but being copied from a
treatise on surgery of still a thousand
years earlier, there is mention of a
disease which is supposed by the
translator to he cancer.
It had haunted the human race
through ave thousand years, and
even now is beyond the sure control
of modern science. But in spito
the fact that the death rate from
cancer is "but little if at all dimin-
ishing" there have been sucli ad-
vances in the last 25 years our
knowledge through laboratory re-
search and such great additions to
the resources of those who diagnose
and treat the disease that "Ji -ger
and larger number of patients re-
ceive effective and successful treat-
ment of cancer every year.' This
is due primarily to the earlier dis-
covery of the disease by the patient
and the more prompt application of
treatment by surgery and by radia-
tion.
The President of the American
Society for the control of Cancer
holds it not improbable that the
education of the public has been "the
most vital factor." There is urgent
need for the continuance of the ac-
tive service of this society which has
for ten years been carrying on this
humanitarian work.
The layman and "especially the
laywomana must te taught to ap-
preciate the possible "cancer signifi-
cance" of certain symptoms and
helped to understand that delay is
fatal. A recent week was designated
by Governor Lehman as one in Mach.
attention should be given to this
cause. To ninny an individual this
is of even more consequence than the
election.
