Mr. J. J. Keys, wife and daughter,
whose home is in Nashville, Tenn.,
who have been living the past eleven
weeks in Hayfield are leaving for
their home in the south. Mr. Keys,
who is a native of Stanley township,
has been living in the U.S.A. since
his early manhood. He followed the
teaching profession for many years
mad for several years before his re-
tirement he was principal, in charge
of all the public schools in that city.
He never forgets the land of his
birth, however, and likes to come
back at least annually to visit the old
haunts. For some years he and his
family have been spending the sum-
mers in Bayfield.
Woman Flies Atlantic
..In a solo flight from the east to
west, Mrs. Beryl Markham, English
society woman and the mother of a
7 year old son, last week flew alone, Albert Wuerth.
and the only woman to ever accam- Hensall public and continuation
plish the feat, directed her plane sch000ls re -opened for the fall term
from London, England towards New Tuesday last with a splendid attend -
York. She made the trip across the ance, and with the same staff of
atlantic nicely, but when she arrived; teachers as the past school year.
at Nova Scotia she was obliged to
land and the plane "cracked" up a
bit, but she soon had another plane
and finished her trip to New York.
Very few women would have the
courage to take off alone on a solo
light across the mighty Atlantic.
Soon this will be only an afternoon's
>pin by plane to cross the ocean,
ivho only knows what will be brought
.bout in another generation.
RECORD FOR BLUE WATER
Mr. and Mrs. Theo Wagner, of
011011)11 visited with his parents over
the holiday.
Word has been received that Mr,
Herb Bender who unwent a critical
.operation at Toronto, has recovered
sufficiently to return home this week.
Mr. Miltoni 0,esch spent the holiday
with friends at Deeboro. He was
•accompanied home by Miss Mink,
who is visiting with friends here.
Mr. Herb Mousseau, proprietor af
the Zurich Garage and service eta -
ton clueing the peat week has made
some very modernistic improvements
to :his buildings, The old concrete
front has been taken down and about
twelve feet of the building levelled
down and a fine new buff brick front
has been put up which looks very
much better and also affords more
eoom in front of the garage, r.is
car can now comfortable be placed
in front of the garage without inter-
fering with the sidewalk. The levell-
ing up of earth has also been done
around the newly placed gas pump
and in the matter of another week it
will be a very attractive place for
the .motorists.
AN UNUSUAL GROWTH
Second growth oats 12 to 15 in-
ches high •somethine: unusual in this
district have made their appearance
upon most farms in this district and
are proving excellent pasture for live
stock, who have found the grass pas-
ture getting very scant and dried up.
The early oats cut a few weeks a ern *
off of soil baked from the drought,1j.
have again sprouted from the roots! 1:
and are heading out due to recent
moisture. This is somethinet new to
farmers, as well as very welcome to
help out with pasture. Apparently
owing to the extreme heat and dro-.
ught the oat crop ripened much soon-
er than the plant was ready and now
there seems to be a reserve of grow-
th in the roots which are driving on
a second growth.
