Y. the other I night President Roosevelt declared the United States can and will defend ourselves and our neighbors. The president, in his first foreign policy speech this year, told a large o.udi- ence that "the nobelest monument to peace and to neighborly econorele and social friendship rn1l the world, is not a moamnent in bronze or stone but the boundry which unites the United States and . Canada -3,000' miles of friendship with no barbed wire, no gun or soldier; and no pass- port on the whole frontier". The re- ference to Canada brought tumultu- ous applause which seemed to reach its height as the gathering realized the significance of the ,use of the word "unite rather than "divide." "Of all the nations of the world to- day we ate in rnany ways most eiri- gularly blessed." the president said: "Our closest neighbors are -good nei- ghbors. If there are remoter nations that wish us not good .will but ill will, they know that we are strong they know that we can and will e - fend ourselves and defend our neigh- borhood." 11—'4' . 1 • ' Hensall Council Minutes The regular meeting of the Villego Council was held on the eve of Aug; 5th, at 8 p.m. in the Council Chemin ers with all members present. .Thy minutes of the previous meeting Wd- re read and adorited.
