notice that Goderich `Council . have
already decided for a similar event

BASEBALL NEWS '
THE TOURNAMENT
Last Wednesday, August 5th the
Zurich Baseball Club held a Benefit
Baseball Tournament on the local
diamond, in the interest of EarI
"Duke"' Yungblut, the Club's regu-
lar catcher, who broke his leg in a
game at iSeaforth.
The first game was between Goder-
ich and :Seaforth with the former
winin, score 3-1. McDougal hit a •
home run in the 7th for Goderich
with one man on base.

The Zurich lads with Lil1aw on the
mound trimmed Clinton in the second
game with Stock doing the hurling
for the colts. Lillow was in fine forni
letting the hard hitting Clinton ag-
gregation down with 4 hits which
were widely scattered. The lone co-
unter for the Colts came in the 3rd
inning. Stock . the first man up was
an easy out, Oesch to O'Brein. Mc-
Donald walked, stole second and tl
came home on Glen's dougle tl deft;
field. . McEwen then lined to Stade
near second and Glen was doubled;
when the ever•alert "Gib" stepped on
the bag completing an unassisted do- d
able play..1 k
1 Yungblut popped out to McDon-
ald at 3rd to start the 2nd inning for
Zurich. Schilbe then singled to right
and went to 3rd when Judd let Prang
slashing single. 'to right go through ve
him: Block promptly hit to the same
;pot, Schilbe scoring with the inital 't
run and Prang moved to second. Lil-
low kept up the barrage by driving
another hit 'to'right field scoring a
Prang and moat*, Block to 3rd and
'tallow took second on the throw in e
'to the plate; °Or :s"t , tiu'r focal tonsoril
artist and `3rd ibaseman, leaned on
one in the groove ;and slammed it o
far out on the tr ck in left field for G
3 bases scoring' dock and Liilow. r
Gascho then filed. out to c.f. Len
O'Brein drove a single to centre
scoring Oesch with the fifth run of t
he inning. Stade ended the inning by w
lining out to McDonald at 8rd.
The flying Dutchmen scored four t
more runs, two in each of the 3rd and
6th innings to soundly beat the stron_
4est league rivals 9-1. to

The winners of the first and sec-
ond games met in the finals, Goderich
and Zurich, in what proved to be a
very poor exhibition from the spect-
ator's point of view. Welsh who pit-
ched a great game against Seaforth
earlier in the day was again named
to do mound duty for the Sailors.
Owing to a wrenched back of Heide-
man, Zurich's tall"pitching ace, Car-
ter Kerslake, who twirled for Sea -
forth in the first game, took the pit-
ohing assignment for the locals.
Well,. here we have two pitchers
trying to do the iron man stunt. That
is pitch two games in one day. Zurich
again held the .opposition to one run
with some heads up baseball and we-
re much .the better team in evary de-
partnien of play. Goderich scored
their -on ren in the 2nd"in"nutg Mc_
Douga j °mill. o8' singled to left
field and then stole ,second, Worth'
was an easy ont.•Pxang to O'Brein.
McDougal going to third; Sheardown
was thrown ,.out Prang to O'Brein,
McDougal scoring on the play; Stod-
dard then struck out.
Zurich wasted no time in putting
the game.on ice as the first three men
Oesch, Gascho and Len O'Brein each
drove a single to left field. Stade who
up to this time had not hit safely all
day got hold of a curve and- drove
high over the fence in left field for
a home run cleaning the bases (nice
going Gib!) I. Yungblut walked, Sch-
ilbe pounced . on the old apple and
rode it for two bases to left field.
At this point Mr. Richard 'Welsh the
Goderich pitcher was taken out and
little Fritziey came to the rescue,
temporarily..Block flied out to Shear
down on 3rd and then Kerslake
struck out. Oesch up for the second
tune hi the inning again singled to
left, and immediately stole second.
Gascho then. flied out to left field.
What an inning 6 hits, 2 bases on
balls and 6 runs. Zurich scored one
more in the 2nd and 8 more in the
3rd and ,one in the fifth. However,
the game became somewhat of a
burlesque after the first inning 'and
with the +SaiIors completely demorali-
zed, the Flying Dutchmen rode over
rent roughshod.

disappointment but owing to the
