The extremely hot weather the
past week has rushed" along the crops
ripening, fall wheat is about ready to
be cut, and if we will not receive
•cooler weather with showers, the
summer crops will be ripe in a few
days also. The garadens as well as
field hoe crops are suffering terribly,
peas, beans, corn and early potatoes
are fairly burning up, some cabbage
seems just like scalded and getting
less every day, and so in this land
of plenty we may ;flied ourselves
wan ng.. We trust that rains and
tcooler weather will visit us sin the
very near future.

and there are three parts in each
sub -division. The teal number`. of
part 1 is 1478, part II 169,. and pa

PAINTING AND LETTERING I
' RURAL MAIL BOXES •
It has come to the attention of
this office that .some person, or per -
eons, is travelling throughout the
district ; painting and lettering rural
mail boxes, then going to the patron
Jar owner, anddemanding a fee of 50
feints for the work. While a rural
mail• box, once paid for, becomes the 2
absolute property of the purchaser to a
be used for mail purposes, the Dept.
requires that it be properly erected,
hi good repair, and with the patron's
name legibly lettered thereon. Fail-
ure to Co this may result in the De-
partment discontinuing service to
``drat box. However, the Department
bas not authoroized, commissioned,
nor directed, officially orotherwise,
any person to paint and letter rural
mail boxes and charge the patron for
the work. Moreover, any person re: -
presenting himself as an agent auth-
orized ,by the Dept. to do this work
is acting without .authority and is,
therefore,' rendering himself liable Co
any action which it may deem exped-
ient to ',institute. Patrons of this
Pest office must not construe the
hove information in any way which
would act adversely toward any per
son who is legitimately painting and
lettering rural 'mail boxes after First
Having Interviewed and Received the
the Permission of the Patron, of Own
er, of the Box to do so at an Agreed
Cost.—W. A. Siebert, Acting P. M.
BASEBALL NEWS
On Thursday, July 9th Seaforth
played their last scheduled game of
the season on the local diamond and
the Zurich lads -took them into camp
by a 14-1 score. The game wa.
more interesting than the score wo-
uld seem to indicate. The Seaforth
pitcher Shortreed had 19 hits chalk•
ed against him but a great many of
them wceild have been easy putouts
if his outfielders could judge a fly
ball. His control was good as he
issued only one pass. Lillow pitch-
ed a fine game for Zurich, letting the
opposition down with four hits and
striking out 12.
tA..Word of praise must be given
the umpires, Hawkins and Thorndyke
of Clinton, for the way they handled
the game. Play got under way on
schedule time and as a result nine
innings were played for the first
time this year on the Zurich diam-
ond. . It must be said that the only
umpiring seen here to date, that was
satisfactory: has been done by CIin-
ton .men.
