The heavy rain on Monday even-
ing was very much welcome by the
farmers, as the land had already
dried up so that plowing was almost
impaesible.. Now with a little sun-
shine and heat their should be rapid
growth.
Decoration Day was the result of
heavy traffic on the Blue Water
Highway going through our burg.
Motorists from all parts of the Unit-
ed States were noticed going through
Mr. .Clayton Smith .of Beavertown
has a bunch of men engaged 'at -pres-
ent building a summer cottage on
his farm. •
Mr. and Mrs, Dennis Charrette

motored to London on Monday last.

STANLEY TOWNSHIP
On Sunday May 31st there passed
on to her eternal home one of Stan-
ley's highly respected residents in the
person of Mrs. Robt. Elliott, in her
85th year. Her husband passed a-
way 23 years ago, and for a number
of years she has made her home with
her daughter, Mrs. Robt. Reid. She I
was wonderfully bright and active i
for her age and her mind was clear
till the last. She was a woman of
high moral and religious standardsa
loving and dutiful mother and a kind
and sympathetic friend and neighbor.
Surviving are a family of four sons
and two daughters, viz: J. Welling-
ton, Morton, George W. and William
(Gertie) Mrs. Edgar Gibson, and
(Lttie) Mrs. Robt. Reid. The funeral
was held on Tuesday to the family
plot in Bayfield cemetery,

HAY COUNCIL
The regular monthly meeting of
the Council of the Township of Hay
was held in the Town Hall, Zurich,
on Monday June 1st, with all the
members present. The minutes of
the Meetings held May 4th and the
special meeting held May 19th were
adopted as read.
The Council then became organi-
zed as a Court of Revision to con-
sider •appeals against theAssessment
Roll for the year 1936, when the fol-
lowing appeals were disposed of:
Chas. Beaver, assessed to high, dis-
missed; J. E. Druar, assessed too high
appeal on his farm lands dismissed;
assessment on property in Zurich low
ered $50; Mrs. Olive Gabel, assessed
too high, appeal dismissed; Owen
Geiger, assessed too high and claim
for exemption on woodlands, adjour-
ned to July 6th, 1936. The following
omissions and changes were also anade
in the Assessment Roll: Ken. Clarke
and Mrs. Ken Clarke, assessed as
tenants at Exeter, cemetery; Wm.
Green and Mrs. Wire .Cxreen, assess-

Died at Clinton
Clinton lost an old and respected
resident when Mrs. Byard' Hill, wid-
ow of a former groceryman, died at
thehome of her daughter, ,Mrs..An-
drews, on May 12th. She was in her
87th year. Had been a resident of
,Clinton since 19.06. Oneson and one
daughter survise:

Former Stanley Res. Passes
There passed away in Godericra_.
Hospital, .after a lingering illness,
one who was well known in the per-
son of ,Margaret 'Lindsay widow of'
the late Richard Smith, in her 69th
year. She was the daughter of the
late Jas. Lindsay was born in .Stan -
;'lent Township' on May 17, 1867, and'
moved to Goderich Twp. with her.
parents when a child, nIn 1907, she.-
was united in marriage with Richard.
Smith who predeceased her in 1931
and they settled on a farm on the
Saulrle Line; where they ;remained'
until they came to 13ayteld, which
has been their home ever since..
Since her husband's. death, - she has,
had charge of the two Rural Maid:!
