Ottawa -While doing away with
the •so called "blank -check" system
of authorizing paymentof public
mtinies for Belief purposes, the Gov-
ernment will, in a few days, ask Par-
liament to vote sufficient 'money to
cover all normal relief needs for the
current .fiscal year. Prime Minister -
'King has announced his intention of
putting through before Eeaster rec-
ess, a supply bill of $50,000,000 pr
more to be spent on relief and re-
employment. This, is on the assump-
tion the provinces and municipalities
will also put up an amount equaling
oor exceeding that from the federal
treasury, making an aggregate of
more than $100,000,000 available for
unemployment, relief and kindred
problems.
JUVENILE COURT JUDGE DIED
...Charles A. Reid, Goderich passed
away at the home of his brother, Dr.
W.J. Reid, Detroit, Saturaay last,
He was returning with his wife from
California, where they had spent the
winter. iMr. Reid, who was in his
66th year, had been in poor health
for some time. He was Magistrate
for 60 years,and also was Judge of
the Juvinile Court. He was born in
Goderich, a son of Mr. and Mrs.
Jamieson Reid, and entered munici-
pal life about 1900, spending ten
