Mrs. Audrey Swan of Brucefield,

the week -end with her parents, Mr.

Mr. Milton Oesch motored to Des -

The snow on the streets of town
is being disked up by the local pat-
rollman, Mr. George Thiel, and it
is indeed surprising:_' Bow rapidly the
snow does go these mild days when
the big banks are being stirred up.
It will however, take some thawing
yet to clear away all the snow and
ice around town.
No less than twenty-three hockey
fans motored to Stratford on Friday
evening where. the Guelph . Maple
Leaf, team . played the Strtaitford
&eani in the playoff's. Unfortunately.
the Guelph steam Tose 4-3, but they
redeemed themselves on Monday eve
in the return game and won by 6-3,
giving Guelph the win, in the round.
Mr. Harold Stade of Zurich is the
popular goal tender for the Guelph
Maple Leafs.
Sunday afternoon ushered in the
first,, real thaw that we have had in
nearly three monthts, wren follow-
ing the rain or sleet and heavy fog
Sunday night, the weather turned
mild and with the sun peeping out at
times, the old snow banks which we-
re in many places six and eight feet
deep, have been reduced to ordinary
mole hills. The roads have also
been opened up considerably, as one
can now go by car to St. Joseph, to
Blake„ down the 14th concession,
and only for the deep water in the
places where the snow was so deep,
the road to I•Iensall should be fairly
good. Deep ruts have been cut to
the original road bed and it makes it
hand turning out at places. We
think it would be a blessing if the
mild weather would now continue
till the snow and ice have practically
disappeared.
Roadway Opened
Over at Crediton as at many other
places, for the first time since Janu-
ary 15, motor car traffic was open
from. Crediton by way of +Centralia
to Highway No. 4, last Friday. The
five -mile stretch was opened after a
provincial snowplow and a crew of
men with shovels had worked for
several days. The drifts were so
hard in places that it was difficult for
the plow to get through. Many
roads in the district are still impass- ,
able.
