The mercantile store of J. Gascho
& Son of Zurich, beginning •Satur-
day, Feb. 22nd, are holding a two
week's Annual Winter Clearing Sale.
The public are heartily invited to
attend during these two weeks and
aharc in the many bargains they are

One of the most active and sinart
old men for his age is Mr. John. Fos-
ter of the Babylon line, Hay Town-
ship. Mr. Foster, who is 85 -years
young enjoys is almost daily walks
to Zurich, two miles,' and in the-
sununer, or when. the roads are good
he still rides his bicycle. Mr. Foster
says he rather enjoys the cold weatb-
er this winter, as it bring back fond
;memories of years gone by.
The rather fairness of the weather
on Saturday brought out a large
number of farmers to town and the
Local merchants and business men
reported it the best , day for some
time. In one of the local church
sheds we are told that GO home
drawn vehicles were sheltered. These
sheds which were built, in more hap-
pier and prosperous days, are in-
deed a great comfort to oi'd dobbin
in the cold wintry weather. •
HENSALL SHORT COURSE
The Huron County Branch of the
Ontario Dept. of Agricultural, is con-
ducting a month's course in Agricult-
ure and Home Economics in the Vill-
age of Hensall, during the month of
February. This course opened on the
4th of Feb., and will continue until
the 28th. Short Courses of this nat-
ure were commenced in Huron Co.,
in 1922, and the Hensall Course is
the 17th to be held in the County -
The attendance in the class in Agri-
culture, is 35 and 42 girls are en-
rolled in the class in Horne Econom-
ics. It is interesting to note that the
17 courses have been attended by
531 boys and 642 girls. The resi-
dent teacher in the Home Econom-
ise class is Miss Jean Scott of Port
Elgin, and Mrs. D. B. McDonald of
Ripley, is in charge of the four we-
ek's instruction in sewing. Mr. Tan
MacLeod, Agr. Rep., for the County
is in charge of the class in Agricult-
ure, and is being assisted for the.
month by Mr. R. T. Jefferson, B.5.A.

limit to the number of trees which
will be supplied for reforestation

In County Court
Five civil non -jury cases make up
the dockeit of the Supreme Court
sitting at Goderich, which opens be-
fore Mr. Justice McEvoy on Tuesday
of this week. There is no criminal
case on the list.
End of World Prophet
Harold R. Varney, who on Thurs-
day of last week prophesied the
world would end Friday night, said
he was the "happiest man in Toron-
to." Minister to a small independ-
ent 'congregation which meets at his
home in that city, Varney said, "The
Almighty has seen fit to grant an
extension of time so that those who
are not right with God can get that
'way." Varney declared there was no
mistake on his calculations regarding
Judgment Day "They are based on
Bible passages," he said. "Every day
now is a day of grace and I expect
Judgment Day to start any hour.'r
More Tourist Cars
Number of .tourists and automo-
biles enteriing Canada contibue its
upward swing through 1935, it was
announced from the department of
national revenue. The 'total number
of foragn cars entering the Dominion
was 3,605,086, an increase of 343,-
238. T1he majority of tourists enter-
ed Ontario with the Fort, Erie port
of entry recording the Iargest num-
ber. of visitors. Ontario admitted
2,374,517 tourists_ Of . these 757,-
450. entered through Fort Erie while
Windsor admitted 731,471 and Niag
ara Falls 622,623. Canadian tour-
ists lea,,ving the Dominion numbered
659,259, an increase' of 145,407 of
the previous year.
Invites Bachelors
Arthur Slight, member from Par-
ry Sound, in which riding resides the
famous five sisters and Dr. Defoe,
gave the members of the House of
Commons a warm invitation to go up
to Callender and see the Quints. The
Ontario member drew a. laugh from.
the Ilouse, when he extended ,partici
lar invitations +to Premier Ding, Con-
seryative Leader Bennett, Post -Mas-
iter -General I lliott, and Defense Min-
ister Mackenzie, four .bachelors. ff

Steel -nerved Harry O'Donnell, of
Toronto, heard a murder conviction
with unshaken calm late on Friday
of last week and then declared his

Taylor. Without a flicker of emotion,
the slim gasoline station attendant
heard himself condemned to the gal-
ows for the ravishing and killing of
the 20 -year-old stenographer. Seri-
ous,faced for an instant as he made
his one -sentence plea of� innocence,
he was smilinl,* almost gaily as he
walked out of court with a jest on
