WATER SUPPLY APPROVED
A joint meeting of the County
Home and Warden's Committee of
Huron. County Council decided to
spend approximately .$3,000 to pro-
vide an adequate water supply for
fire protection of the Horne for the
Aged, a mile south of Clinton on No.
4 Highway. The Grant Construction
Co. of Toronto was awarded the -con-
tract for the laying of 1,600 feet of
four -inch. water main, tapping the
new six-inch main to the Radio sch-
ool. Three hydrants are to be instal-
led. A new $1,800 automatic fire a-
Iarm system in the County Horne
will be connected with Clinton Fire
Hail.
Governs Speed of Car
..A new variable speed governor by
which the owner of a car or truck
can set the maximum speed at which
the vehicle can be driven by merely
turning the key on the dash is being
supplied by Ford Motor Co. of Can-
ada, Ltd. It is being offered as opt-
ional equipinent on all models at lit-
tle extra cost. As a safety device
where younger mennbgis gi' r family
are prone to drive at high speeds
this new governor is particularly eff-
ective, it is stated. Parents can set
the speed at anything :front 30 miler
per :hr. to the capacity of the car,
put the key in their pocket and be
certain that the car will not be
driven faster than desired. .The top
speed cannot be changed without the
key. When used on either cars or
trucks this lock makes a definite con-
tribution to general highway safety.
This governor is set by turning the
key in the lock which is conveniently
located near the throttle and choke
on the dash. and is operated by the
vacum in the intake manifold. As the
manifold vacum decreases when the
engin is operating under load, the
governor allows use of full power
when :its ep hills are being climbed or
on other similar occasions.
