home near Kincardine.
Mrs. George Deichert had the ,mis-
fortune to scald he leg while wash -
nig taut weex, and although laid up
for a time is now progressing.
Harvest is progressing very rapidly
as the grain will be practically all
^nt by the end of the week and soon
the 1941 harvest wiii1 be over.
Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Smith of town
accompanied by Mr. Dan. Smith of
Clinton were Sunday visitors with
friends at New Dundee and New
Hamburg. At New Dundee they vis-
ited with the former's uncle and aunt
Mr. and Mrs. Moses Bock who are
,both in their 89th year, and still en-
joying life to a marked degree for
this advanced age.
Aid War Victims Fund
A sacred concert was held on Sun-
day eveninig on the lawn of Dr.
Moffatt, Varna, sponsored by the
Varna branch of the Red Cross. Rev
Hugh .Tack, Seaforbh, was guest spe-
aker. The proceeds went to the 13rit-
1sh War Victims Fund.
Car Stolen ,
Arthur Dick of Nensall, returning
to his home from Strathroy after de-
livering a Load of furniture, discov-
ered that his car, a Chev.`'had been
stolen, including a completes^"' .,?.r•.
troops which had been left inside the

An Enjoyable Outing
We are in receipt of a communic-
ation from. Dr. end Mrs. P. J. O'-
Dwyer and family of town who are
accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. A. F.
Hamilton of London, and are camp-
ing at Wilberforce, Ont., and are
enjoing their vacation to its hest as
this is a place for a real rest, no
telephones or other modern conven-
iences to disturb one, only the ,oc-
casional putiput of a motor boat, or
an airplane over head.

Alexander MacKenzie Passes
Alexander MacKenzie, one of Can-
ada'; oc .t known harness makers,
died at the home of his daughter,
" '''ri•,d. of Toronto, on July
12 in his 85th year. He was a bar
eor more than 60 years,
'of which most of his time was spent
in R,.ppen, and was known to many
in Zurich. A native of Exeter. His
wife was the late Jane Young, a na-
tive of Auburn. Surviving are two
daughters of Toronto and a sister,
:Miss Caroline E. MacKenzie, of Bay-
field.-Serdices were held in Toronto,
land Auburn with interment in Ball's
cemetery.

1 OR Public Safety, by Proclamation, dated June 27th, 1941 .(under authority of The
National Resources Mobilization Act 1940 and The War_Measures Act), The Governor
in Council has now made liable for military training for the defence of Canada —
—all male British subjects resident in Canada at any time since September 1st, 1939, who, on
July r5th, 1940, were unmarried, or childless widowers, and -"who on July 1st, 1940, had
reached the ages of
Twenty-one years Twenty-three years
Twenty-two years Twenty-four years
"and also ?nett who attained or will attain the age of twenty-one years an or after the first day of July, 1940,
and who were on the fifteenth day of July (1940), unmarried or widowers without child or children."

Men designated in the aforegoing are further required
"To submit themselves for medical examination and to undergo military training for a period of four
months within Canada or the territorial waters thereof, and to 'report at inch places and times and in such
manner and to such authorities or persons as may be notified to them respectively by a Divisional Registrar
of an Administrative Division." Extract ,from Paragraph 4 of Proclamation.

Deferring of Training Periods to Avoid Individual Hardship.
If the Board is satisfied that the calling out of any man for military training will cause
extreme hardship to those dependent upon such man, the Board niay, from time to time„
postpone the training period of the man: Provided that such man shall apply for a post-
ponement order in accordance with the provisions of subsection one of section ten of the
regulations.
Postponement Applications Must be Made in Writing
No application for a postponement order may be made otherwise than in writing, by the
man called out, to the Divisional Registrar who issued, the "Notice—Medical Examination"
and within eight dear days of the date appearing on such notice.
Any person who appears before a Board shall do so at his own expense.
War Industry and Seasonal Occupations given Consideration
In the national interest, applications for postponement -of training of key men engaged in
war industries, or in essential occupations, may be 'addressed to the Divisional Registrar
concerned.
Eligible Men Must Not Leave Canada without Authority
No male British subject who is liable to he called out for military training shall, after his age
class has been called out by proclamation, leave Canada, for any reason whatsoever, unless
