They're simple to take. Fast action subjects, of course, call for a fast shutter, but others can be snapped with any er.mera. MS hast winter, no doubt, you made silhouette shots indoors, with a bed -sheet stretched over a doorway and your photo lights be- hind it. But don't forgot that you can also make silhouettes outdoors ---and these are attractive too. The lrielt is simply to have the sun or brightest sky beyond your subject., instead of in front, and show your subject against a bright sky background. Then you under- expose. liar example, if th" normal exposure would be 1/25 seesoud at f/11 leas opening, you would use 1/25 second at f/22 to get the sil- houette effect. With .a box camera, you would take a snapshot as usual, but first you would :set the lens for the sriialiest possible opening. Most regular box cameras have a little lever or slide which enables you to do this. The proper Rim is the "chrome" type, because it is a bit slower than "pan" film in late af- ternoon -and that is just what yon want in this case. There is one point on which you must be careful. Don't allow direct . rays of the sun to enter your suss.. Vou can avoid this by havi:ig a tree or sonde tt!ltr..r object between the camera and the. sun. S• ..:•timo5. you .can t. 11L .ri til;: 51111 seitarely behind you, a*,:lrject, and that is an • excellent arrangement for good sil- ' ' houette effects. Tri show the subject against the sky, you just select a low camera.. position -down close to the gronioL This. it. effect, raises the subject higher. Such a camera_ 1'ns Tion was used to take tine )lieu.. t c ove. Of: ' course, ami action' pit : like this (alis t'•ar a fast 011111 -say 1/40C. ;second, with tit 1-'. set at VS. However, there are :ntndreds of outdoor subjects that can be pie••' tared. `sin silhouette" even with the most inexpensive cameras. (Vater • ueones, profile shots of penile;, :bziidings against the sunset sky - these are good examples. And a sil- houette shot always has a neat;, ,decorative quality that snakes it welcome in your album. 1 33; John van Guilder in Goderich Township, she had been of June. a resident of Hensall for the past 19The main block of the Hunter I3ri• years, coming here from Hillsgreen, i dge and Boiler Works at Kincardine where they ,farmed for many years.v was destroyed by fire early Sunday A member of Carmel Pre.;byterian . morning last. church, she was active in church or- Miss Irene Abbott, language teach- ganizations and in Red Cross work, er .at, Minton Collegiate Institute the: until her illness.
