NOTICE
A special meeting . of `the members
of The Hay Township Farmers' Mut-
ual Fire Insurance Company will be
held in the Town Hall, Zurich, on
Saturday, the 17th of May 1941 at
8 o'clock p.m. for the purpose of
considering .a resolution passed at
the recent Convention of the Mutual
Fire Underwriters' Association re-
commending that each Farmers'
Mutual Company contribute 3% 'of
its surplus as at the 31st of Decem-
ber 1940, to a. fund 'to be known as
the BRITISH AID FUND, which is to
beforwarded o the Prime Minister,
the Hon. Winston Churchill to be
used at his discretion. for repairing
war damage to farms and villages of
Great Britain or for any other. pur-
pose. And further to authorize the
Board of Directors to take such
.actionin the matter as the meeting
niay designate.

In County Court
Mr. Justice Plaxton, recently ele-
vated to the 'bench, is scheduled t o
preside at the non -jury sitting of the
Supreme Court at Goderich this Tu-
esday, :but there will be little or no
business to transact. A settlement
has been reached in the only case set
dawn for hearing. It is motor dam-
age action in which John Bach, im-
plement and electrical dearer, of
Seafor'th, is suing 1Chaales Clifton,
Tuckersmi:th farmer, for $3,000: dam
ages.
STEPHEN COUNCIL
The Council of the Township of
Stephen met in the Town Hall, Cre-
diton, on April. 7th, at 1 p.m. All
members present. The minutes or the
previous meeting were ,re.ad and ad-
opted, on motion
The Clerk read the following cor-
respondence: 1. From Accountant,
Department of Highways, . enclosing
reports of the Auditor on his recent
inspection of the Township books,
covering road expenditures for the
year 1939. 2. From District Eng-
ineer, of Municipal Reads that the
Department approves the Township
decision •to purchase one Dominion
8'6" V type Madel 106 Snow Plow'
with 12' wing attached to use on�
their power grader at a price of $850.•
3. From Chief Engineer of Municip-
al Roads, that the Government Sub-
sidy will be eligible on a net total
expenditure for 1941 of $10,000. 4.
From Director of Unemployment Re-
lief regarding Medical Relief to re-
lief recipients. 5. From:Minister of
Labour and Public Welfare stating
that relief contributions for the
months of Jan., Feb., and March
will continue on the previous 40-40-
20 basis but from April 1st to Dec-
ember 31st, 1941, the Province will
contribute 75 p.c. of shareable item:
which will necessitate a municipal
contribution of 25 p.c. 6. From De-
puty Minister Affairs that the Prov-
ince is undertaking to pay a mill
subsidy basis on the total municipal
rateable assessment for the current
year.
William Sweitzer and Win. Oestr-
eicher, representing the Towne.hip of
Stephen Federation of Agriculture
waited on the Council and asked' for
permission to use the Township Hall
on the evening of the second M snday
of each anorith for their organirrataion
meetings. Their 'request was grant-
ed without +charge.
Murray Elliott and WM. Oestrei-
•cher, on behalf of the Exeter Agric-
eltural Society, asked the Council for
a grant to meet expenses. On mot

to the Society

Cross Advisory Board will meet on
Monday evening next at 8 p.m. in
the Town xlall.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Geirhart and
Mr. and Mrs. Nate Parent of Detroit,
spent the week -end at the home of
Mrs. J. W. Horner and fancily.
Mr. Harry G. Hess, Miss Ethel
Williams, lie. Calvin Williams and
Mr. and Mr.. T. L. Williams attend-
ed the funeral of the late Mr. John
Schaff, London on Monday afternoon.
Me. Martin Laub of Dashwood was
in town Monday. Mr. Laub has a-
bout completed his locker service in
Dashwood and is having the opening
this week -end.
Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Smith attend-
ed the annual Tea on Sunday after-
noon which was held at Brecia Hall,
which is affiliated with Western Un-
iversity at Londe :. There was a
very good display : f articles the stu-
dents taking the . tome Economics
course had made, and needless to say
the lunch was very delicious.
Zurich Wins
Zurich Flying Dutchmen defeated
Bayfeld Fishermen in the first game
orf the schedule on. Monday by the
score of 21-3 in favor of Zurich.The
next game of the schedule will be in
Zurich. on Wednesday, when Hensall
vs Zurich. So come and cheer the

SILVER WEDDING
On. Tuesday April 29th, Mr and
Mrs. Thec,d'ore Rader of the Goshen
line south cerebrated their silver
wedding; anniversary. About thirty
guests were present and were at 6.30
invited into the dining room which
was decorated with spring flowers
and silver:• streamers. The centre of
s adorned the table' waotned. asith a beauti-
ful three story wedding cake. After
a sumptuous fowl' diaper progressive
euchre was played.. The bride and
groom cf 25 years were the recipients
of many beautiful' and useful pres-
ents.
Womens' Institute
The regular meeting' sf the Wom-
en's institute was herd. in the town
,111, Zurich, Monday; May 5th. The
programme was green by Exeter
'ranch and was greatly enjoyed by
all. Mrs Gesell our new president,
opened' they meetings in the usual way
and when the regular lHisiness was
finished; Mrs. Kyle of Exeter took
.harge: Mr. :Gourding was pianist.
The program consisted' of duets, so-
los and' instrumenrittl . A humorous
reading was given ti•y Mrs. Maw-
hinney, and' an ed1 cationar paper
read'.by- Miss J eckel'P., Both institutes
were well' represenaed. Lunch was
served' by' Mlrn H Rase, Mrs. D. Du -
charm and .l'fis. T'. Meyers and tl eir
