HAD LARGE RALLY
"Britain today is a land of heroes,
most of whom ere not in uniform,"
Squadron Leader A. Hooper, padre at
he RAF Navigation School at Port
Albert told an audience of more than
1,000 which filled First Presbyterian
Church, Seaforth, on Sunday after-
noon. The rally was held under the
auspices of .the Huron County War
Services Campaign which is now in
progress. The speaker told the mag-
nificent work which the auxiliary
services are doing`in defending Lon-
don and Britain. The firemen, the AR
workers, the ambulance drivers,the
olice, all are unsung heroes, he said.
1 Britain the people are living on
le brink of the road house or the
ontinent of Europe where 'the en-
avement of free and innocent peo-
le is the means to an end for the
iorification of the Nazi party, Brit -
n stands today as the last bulwark
f Christianity, of civilization, the
st defender of all things held dear
by a free people, he said. "Do you
not thrill with pride at this amazing
tight which your fellow British cit-
izens are putting up?" he asked.
"And yet there are still a few who
think •that the fight is not •their fight.
It is increditable that there are today
men and women who do not realize
that their personal, liberty, freedom
of body, speech and worship is dep-
endent upon the result of the fight
which is being put up in twat Little
island." The rally was preceeded by
a parade M. which appeared :nen-theirs
of the branches of the Canadian Le-
gion and companies from the Middle -
,ax and Huron Regiments of Seaforth
and Goderich, the Hussars of Exeter
and the 97th. Battery of Wingham.
Three bands paraded , the Seaforth
Highlanders, Wingham Citizens and
Stratford Salvation Army. Charles
Holmes, Seaforth, was parade mar -

a committee headed by Geo. Schaffer
Go•dericlr. Mayor John J. Cluff ex-
tended a civil wel"come. The chair-.
man, of the meeting was E. S. Cope-
land,' of Wingham. Hundreds unable
o 'gain admittance to the church
heard the program from loud speak-
ers .outside. J. 0. Thomas, chairman
of the County Board in charge of the
campaign, told the meeting that Hur-
on hacl already raised 62 p.c, of its
objective.• The campaign is only 50
