LESS WHEAT GROWING
..Ottawa—In order to induce farm-
ers to reduce wheat acreage the Gov-
ernment will pay them` for wheat
lands turned into summer fallow;
sown to coarse grains and rye or se-
eded tto grass or clover. Agricultur-
al Minister Gardiner announced in
the House of 'Commons. For reducing
wheat' acreage summer' followed and.
in the :black on Jiuly :1, the Govern-
ment will pay $4 per acre. For re-
duced wheat acreage sown to coarse
grains, rye, grass or clover the pay-
ment -will be $2 per acre. Fouowing
Trade Minister MacKinnon's announ-
cement of restriction of wreat deliv-
eries in the crop year 1941-42 to
230,000,000 bushels. This figure ar-
rived at will suggest that farmers
should keep before them an object-
ive of not more than 65 p.c. of last
year's acreage.
TOO MUCH ROWDYISM
Street fights and other disturbanc-
es were nutherous in Goderich last
Saturday night and while nine people
were taken in by police for question-
ing only two were• detained and they
were released on ,bail on Sunday.
They face disorderly counts, arising
out of an argument over who was to
escort two young girls. Four' airmen
from Port Albert 'and oi:e crvlIiait
were picked as ringleaders in a gen-
eral free-for-all on South street, in
which faces were. bruised, eyes blac-
kened and blood flowed, In this case
too, the argument was said to have
started over "girl friends," support-
ers going to the aid of the respect-
ive disputants. Since Monday a spec-
ial RAF patrol has been on duty in
Goderich in late afternoons and ev-
enings, and this force is to be dou-
bled on .Saturdays and special occas-
ions. Police said all hotels had been
