attended the funeral of a relative at
Kitchener on Sunday.

turned to their home at Dasherood,
after spending several days with
their son-in-law and daughter, Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Corbett.
Mrs. Lawrence Baynham and chil-
dren of Exeter were visitors a few
days with Mr. and Mrs. Peter Moir.
Mee and Mrs. Wm. Hildebradt
were in London Friday last attending
the funeral of Mrs, Thomas Gibson,
sister of Mr. Hildebrandt, and also
attended the funeral of a brother-in-
law, George Silver, iu London, on
Tuesday last.

The sum of $142 was raised for
the British War Victims' Fund at a
bingo, eueilre and dance held under
the auspices of the Kippen Bast W.I.

Measles—School Closes
The Auburn Public School has
been closed due to the teacher, Miss
Edith Beacon, having measles. There
are several cases among the children.
Chief .Resigns
After 27 years as chief of police
at Goderich, R. C. Postelthwaite will
retire from that office. Action was
taen by town council for appointm-
ent of .a. successor.
92 Years Old
eHartiest best wishes were exten-
ded to Walter McBeth, Sr., of Bruce -
field, who on. March lst 'entered his
92nd year. Mr. McBeth enjoys life
to the fullest degree.

Late Marian A. Stirling
After an illness of four and a half'
months a esulting from a stroke Mar-
ion A. Stirling passed away Tuesday
last at the home of her brother,
James R. Stirang, Goderich Town-
ship, where she- made: her home all
her life. She leaves to mourn a bro-
ther, Alfred of MacGregor, Man., and
sister (Sarah) Mrs. P. W. Cross o1'
Grosse Isle, Man., and Jas. R. at
home. -
Mail Carrier Pensioned
A familiay personality about the.
Clinton post -office and railway citation
will be seen less frequently after
April 1, James Perry, - who for the
bast 19 years has had the job of
transporting -the mails to .and from
C.N.R. trains and Clinton post office
will be retired on .pension by the de-
partment at the end of .:March. He
.vas a relative of the late Mrs. S. S.
Cooper, whose maiden name was
Hanna, and for nine years carried the
mails under Mr. Cooper's contract.
For the past ten years he had the con-
tract himself, and during the whole
til years he did not miss a train con-
nection,
George Sowerby, 64, descendant of
a pionneer'• Goderich Twp. family,
died in the Goderich Hospitar follow,
ing an operation. He was a promin-
ent and successful farmer. Boris in
the Township a son of Thomas Sow-
erby, native of England. He lived all
his life in his native mrrrrreipality and
)n his adult years operated a targe
farm on the 4th ...concession 5 miles
from Goderich. An Anglican and a
Mason. Besides his wife, six children
survive, The funeral was held on

Sells. Three Flax Mills

been concluded by the local flax firm
of J. 'G1 Anderson & Son, whereby'',
the spills at Seaforth, :Mitchell. and.
Tavistock have been disposed of` to -
the I-fesky Flax Products, Ltd. The
tran action included all building,
crop and equipment of each of these
three plants, with the exception of
special machinery in Seaforth mill
which will be removed to the Lack -
now plant- T•rrelimow Sentinel.
Mrs. Wm.. Sclater
Mrs. Wm. Sclater, one .of the old-
est residents of Seaforth, passed pea-
cefully away on ¥etb. 7, at her resid-
ence in her 91st year. Her maiden
name was Jane Anderson, and was
born in Ireland where- she was marr-
ied in 1874 to her late husband who
predeceased her 22 years ago. They
came to .Seaforth from tee old Co-
untry 67 years eget.,.and she has re-
sided athere ever since: Although eo
advanced in years, she was as bright
as ever and posessed. a wonderful
memory, an active member or First
Presbyterian .church and a former
president of the Ladies'' Aid Society.
Surviving are six of a familte,.. four
daughters and two sons..
Death of Mrs. Lochner
Mr& Charles Lochner passed: away
at her residence in Shipka on Moo -
day in her 70th year. Her huaband
predeceased her three months. She
had resided in Shipka for the past 50
years, moving there from Crediton,
She was a member of the United
chrch at Shipka. Surviving are him
daughters, Mrs. Geo. Fenton, Pa,Mrs
Ernest Carrothers, London; Mrs. Ger
Baynham. Centralia and Lucille at
home; five sons, Harry, Windsor; Er-
nest. Inwood; Charles- and Jack, Lon
don and Wm. at home, also two sis
ters and Ave brothers. The iunern'
took place at Grand Boni Cemetery.

John Jrlmes Sclater, a well-known
Seaforth coal anerchant, died on Fri-
d sy at his home there in his 60th
year, About a month ago he surfer-

Seaforth, he was the seconct son of
