Lloyd Wa'Iper, Clinton, the past week • Miss Margaret Hey who has been at London for some time, is spending the week at her home here. Marg- aret is leaving for the city the latter part of the week to commence, her new duties with the Bell Telephone Company of that city. BAYFIELD RED CROSS The Bayfield Unit of the Red Cross Society made their .first' shipment since the New Year last week which included: 4 sailor's scarfs, 5 scarfs, 5 .sleeveless sweaters,. 3 turtle -neck eweaters, I high neck sweater, :3 .tiiineti*s helmets, 1 seamen's helmet, .) pr. mitts, 76 pas. socks, 8 suits of pyjamas. Evacuee:: 1 quilt, 5 suits children's sleepers (donated), 1 pr. girl's pyjamas (donated), 9 pr. mitts 2 parka hoods, and 2 children's dresses. SNOW IN HURON Goderich—The snow :term which was raging in the county thepas week left the roads in a very bad and blocked condition and during the week only in isolated spots was ,any attempt made to open them. All co- unty plows were called in and 420 miles of county highways were im- passable. The .plows were not doing any good and were dangerous on the highways, Engineer Patterson said. Worship denly of a heart attack. He and his 11 a.m: Sabbath School, brother lived together on the farm 7.30—Worship. near Dashwood. He had been ailing for several days and it was decided that a neighbor Alf. Hartman, was to bake him to a relative's home in Ex- eter .and upon arriving it was found he was dead. He was in his 77th yr. and came to this country from Eng- land at the age of 24. Surviving are two sisters and three brothers. The funeral was held Thursday last with interment in Exeter cemetery. HENSALL SEED SHOW The South Huron Agricultural So- ciety will hold its 40th annaul Seed Fair at the Town Hall, Hensall, on Friday, February 28th, when a lib- eral prize list will be offered to exhib itors of grain and seeds. The societys Seed Fair is the only one of its kind, in Huron and also one of the oldest institutions in Western Ontario, Over •a long term of years it has held its place as one of the leading agricult- ural features in an agricultural dis- trict. FIRST CEMENT POURED Work on Exeter's new bridge by the Wainwright Construction Co. is progressing and the pouring of the first 'cement for the north abutment was made Friday of last week. It was first necessary to remove the stone foundation of the old bridge and to excavate for a•distance of 8 feet, 4 inches below the river bed for the foundation of the new abutment. Work is now commencing on the centre span in the middle of the elver and for this the plans call for excavating six and a half feet below the river bed.—Exeter Times-Advo- cate.- OBITUARY Dies Suddenly Lloyd Wagner, 34, of Shakespeare, six miles east of Stratford, died ud- denly in the Stratford General hos- pital, Stratford last Thurscray night. On the Monday previous he under- went an operation for appendicitis, The deceased was a Iarge man weigh- ing almost 300 pounds, and operated the Shakespeare hotel with 11is mother Mrs. Jacob Wagner, who is a member of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Klopp family of Zurich A sister, Miss Helen Wagner, of Kitchener, also survives.. The funeral was held on Sunday and was largely attended. The late Mr. Wagner was a frequent visitor in Zurich with his relatives here. W. M. S. MEET The Women's Missionary Society of St. Peter's Lutheran churea, met in the church .basement for their regular monthly meeting on Thursday even- ing, Feb, 20. tMrs 7!;. Beer, who has been in bus- iniess in Exeter for mane, tars, has sold out and now intends to take a well-earned rest. Earl Russell, who has been associated with Mr, l3eer, has taken over the radio and electr- ical departments and Gerald Skinner, who has also been with Mr. Beer for a number of years, has taken over the remainder of the stock.
