Letter From England
Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Stelck of the
14th Concession received a lettei
recently from the latter's cousin,
Mrs. Eric Lock, Shrewsbury, Eng-
land who was formerly Miss 'Peggy
Meyers, daughter, of Aaron (Ernie)
Meyers, Zurich. The letter she wrote
was very interesiting indeed, also the
newspaper clippings she sent relating
the, daring feats of her husband,Eric.
This young pilots career makes thril-
ling reading. In 1937 he joined the
RAF and on the outbreak of war he
was given a commission and trans-
ferred from north to the south into
the thick of it, and quickly sprang
to ,fame. Hes hot down 1.1 planes in
10 days, three of them in one -after-
noon and had to bail out three times
to as many weeks. On one occasion,
after he bailed out he landed in the
sea five miles out and was picked up
by one of the English patrol boats.
Next day he was shot in the leg but
fortunately the bullet did not pen-
etrate very deep He now carries the
bullet around with him in his pocket.
Following these feats he was award-
.ed the D.F.C. He carried on the
good work and two weeks tater he
received the Bar to his distinguished
Flyin Cross.g The following week he
had bagged two enemy planes one
morning and then was himself shot
down being wounded by cannon shot
in both legs and his arm broken in
two places, he landed safely in some
marshy . ground ,,and put• out the
flames in his machine. For this he
was awarded the 0.5.0. presented by
H.M the King. With men as courag-
ke.ous at this on our side, we shall
surely win the war!
