'Bagged 18 Ducks
Apparently ducks must still be very
plentiful around these parts, as on
Wednesday morning Merrsr. C. Fritz
and Gid Koehler went out and shortly
afterwards returned with a bag of
18 of nice even sized birds. These
two champions ran across twe flocks
taking ten from the first flock and
eight from the second flock. It should
not alone give them a rare treat, but
one would think it would supply the
Christmas Dinner table and then
greatly contribute towards the win-
ter's supply of meat.

Massey, Ont., Oct. '40
Dear Mr. Smith—Hello there am..
how are you? This is grand weather
we are having in this part of the
country. Perhaps you think we have
forgotten you, but such is not the
case, in fact we often speak of Zur-
ich, and not the many changes and
improvements made in the village
through the columns of your paper.
Mrs. Rem.be and I just remarked
that we have been reading the Herald
for nearly a quarter of a century.
My, how the time flies, almost twenty
five years. Well, we might as well
begin the second twenty-five years.
With all good wishes to you all, from
,Mrs. Remibe and myself, I remain,
cordially yours;—,Rev. H. Rembe.

A HEAVY FINE
A penalty of $1.37.50 was imposed
by Mag. Hawkshaw at London on
W. M. MacDonald, Kincardine, tlrst
man to be seentenced in London for
leaving the scene of a traffic crash
since the province started a camp-
aign against hit -run drivers. The fine
of $100 and costs or two months in
jail compares with the minimum of
$25 and costs, which usually has
been imposed in London courts in
the past. The Kincardine man, lines -
roan for the 1?(IJX: of that cJwn, was
hccused og being the driver w'hose

Fender Music
A merchant on the Square looked
out of his store window to see a five
year old boy hammering the fender
of the merchant's shiny new auto
with a steel hammer. The boy ran,
the portly merchant in pursuit, along
the street and up the stairs where
apartments are located. , The boy,
cornered in the hall, was asked what
about it --what the idea was. "1
wanna play the band," he replied.
The lad had slugged quite a few fen-
ders along the street, dinging some
and knocking some paint and much
off others. He was reported to police

HOG CHOLERA
A Menace !—Active Co-operation
of every Ontario Farmer is Necess -
ary to stamp it out. Ontario has a
really serious outbreak of hog chol-
era. This deadly infectious disease of
swine has reached alarming proport-
ions in the counties of Essex and
Kent, with smaller outbreains in Lam-
jaton, Elgin, Norfolk and Haldiamand
If the disease is not controlled it is
certain to spread to neighboring, co-
unties. Every precautionmust be
taken. The Ontario Dept. of Agricult-
ure is actively co-operating with Fed-
eral Department of Agriculture and
farrnears in their efforts to stamp
out this disease. If the spread of "bogl
cholera is not checked NOW, every
pig raiser in Ontario stands to lose. '
Only the. immediate and wholeheartd
co-operation of every Ontario farmer
will stamp out this menace to the hog!
industry. Read the special. display

will greatly help to combat against
; dreaded dise:ve.
MUST BUY MARKERS
Driving permits and motor markers
for 1941 are now on sale and mot-
orists are given time until New Year.
in which to make. their purchases
Premier Hepburn, in his budget ad-
dress, warned that no time extension
will be allowed after Jan. 1, alt -
though in recent years this has not
been the rule. For the benefit of
those not posted on the subject, lic-
ense and permit fees have not been
altered this year. Motorists are urged
to bring along their national regis-
tration cards when applying for lic-
enses or permits. Ontario Departm-
ent of Highway authorities also warn
motorists to destroy their old license
plates upon receiving new ones. This
is the individuel responsibility of
every motorist.
