LIGHTNING HITS CATTLE
There is an old adage that lightning
never strikes twice in the same place
but the farmers in the Brinsley dis-
trict disagree. For the third time in
two weeks lightning struck with dis-
astrous results. It killed six cattle,
owned by E. Harris, four owned by
G. Hodgson and a cow owned by
D. Sutherland.

HELP RED CRESS
Summer visitors in Bayherd gave
an amateur concert in the town hall
to establish a patriotic fund from
which the local Red Cross can draw
for gifts and cigarettes for soldiers
who, have enlisted from this locality.
The success of the affair was largely
due to the untiring energy of the
president of the Red Cross, Mrs. R.
H. Gairdner who arranged the pro-
gram. The sun i of $47 was reralized.
Rev. Paull 'acted as chairman and
thanked the people for their response
to the project. The program drew
great applause from the large aud-
ience present.
