FORESIGHT FOR THE
SIGHTLESS
In ancient days when men, skilled
in the art of cruelty, were asked to
devise some atrocious punishment for
an enemy or a criminal about the
most fiendish idea they could suggest
was that the unfortunate prisoner
should have his eyes put out. Modern
society is revolted by the thought of
such outrageous punishment. Never-
theless there are over 12,000 blind
persons' in Canada who are confront-
ed .with the ordinary problems of ev-
eryday life without the use of their
sight. However, in the last twenty
years ways and means have been
found of educating and training them
of providing them with remunerative
employ/bent, of releving them from
the dread of monotony, fear end idle-
ness. War or no war the work of The
Canadian. National Institute for the
Blind must go en es usual. Our blind
:friends are still with us and their
needs are the same. Art the present
time a Countywide effort is being
made to raise much needed funds to
provide. comforts and services to the
thirty odd blind persons in Huron Co-
unty. On Saturday, August 24th the
citizens of Zurich will have the op-
portunity of sharing in this worth-
while work by contributing to the
Tag Day which will be held on that
date. tinder the convenorship of Mr,s.
Merano Oesch a splendid Tag Day
Committee has been formed. Their
services are voluntary and their only
rewaed is the satisfaction of knowing
that the plight of the blind in Huron
County will not go unheeded in 1940
Those serving on the Committee ere:
Misses Doreen O'Dwyer, Patricia 0'-
iDwyer, Davis Hamilton, Doris Mey-
en, Trene' Turkbdm, Florence Bab-
